howdy & hello!
i’m here with a dispatch from the rainy wilderness of los angeles.
i’m painting petals with gouache. swish swash!
even though i’ve seen every video 900 times already during the editing process, i never tire of watching pam paint.
never ever ever.
i love keeping up with all the floral beauty over on the #pgspaintingpetalsclass on IG and on the class flickr group. it’s private, but plenty of people are posting to their public pages as well.

So dang cool Mary Ann, I’m hoping to join the fun soon. I adore Pam and I’d never tire of her painting either.

It’s all your fault!!! I ordered katie daisy’s field guide, too and you are correct. It is luscious. It’s going to be one of those books that is always within reach (even if I don’t reach for it daily). Fun, lovely, inspiring, and gives a hug.

Beautiful floral fab going on over there, and I know you’re enjoying the rain! We are in the few months of the year I call “FL Tourist Board Weather” because it’s ecstatically cool and non-humid. Winter is not a four letter word here. I have the Katie Daisy book on my wish list; love her work.

Hi Mary Ann. I’m loving “Dispatch From LA.” So glad I discovered your blog! Your posts are so fun and inspiring. I learn something and I feel lighter after reading about your goings on in the worlds of sketchbookery and teaching.
Thank you!

Those are really lovely paintings! When I am not in the middle of a local class I want to give Pam’s petals a try. Btw, your practice of painting every day is really paying off. You have developed a great style and you are much better than when you first began!
I hope that school is going well.

I love your gouache painting, Mary Ann…The colors! What are those cute hangy downy flowers? Taking Pam’s classes are helping me to loosen up, because I tend to be too controlling of everything (not people though). It is a work in progress. I get that same thing (freedom) from you too, Mary Ann. I want painting/art to become second nature and completely spontaneous, and free. When you are the type of person that holds tightly to everything for fear of what may happen…I mean gravity could suspend and everything fly right off of the earth! I am that person, but really working on that part of me. Pam and MAM are just what the imaginary doctor has ordered. Boy, there sure are some fantastic artists in the class. I enjoy just looking at everyone’s work! Meeting wonderful new people too!

those wonderful little flowers are Enkianthus campanulatus
google image search and you’ll see many varieties. so fantastic!!!

What is this #pgspaintingpetalsclass you speak of, and this book you are showing katie daisy’s field guide? I must live under a rock. I’m off to check it out. You are always a wealth of information and an abundance of beautiful sketches! Love them!
