when i got home from school to my quiet refuge up here on my little hill, i sat right down and opened my gouache palette. i’m loving the flimsy quality of the traveler’s journal paper.
speaking of gouache, i am actively planning a sketchbookery 2 of sorts for a summer release. no official name yet, but i will be delving deep into all things GOUACHE. this has been simmering on my back burner for awhile now. of course i’ll introduce a fabulous new book structure. just giving you the head’s up since some of my adult craft monkeys have been inquiring. when i know more you’ll be the first to know. in the meantime i continue to study. play. hatch ideas.

Hi, I thought all of these paintings were yours, MAM. They are THAT good! Honestly, your work is SO good, that I think, can I do that?
But, then, I think, of course I can, because you do it and I can do it I but try to….you are so good at what you do, it makes me think I can be that good, too.
You are the inspiration for us. Have a good time doing that!

YIHAAA! No new name needed, Sketchbookery 2 or Gouache Sketchbookery whatever… I will join the class immediatley when it is announced and open for registration!

A new class from MAM! That makes today a good day. I have played with the gouache a few times and it’s highly intriguing. Looking forward to it already 🙂

Beautiful paintings you shared. Thanks. I love your lilac on the creamy background. I too am awaiting recommendations of gouache brands. I bought a cheap set awhile back..but I’m sure I’ll want better ones.

Those purples are splendid! We are still blanketed in snow so colour is a balm for my eyes. My pans of gouache are hardly ever touched…you make me want to give them another try….

Oh goodness! That is great news. I however, am so far behind in Pam’s Painting Petals class that I’ll have to get through that first. So, just keep on planning. 😉 What is it about adding aqua to green leaves that I just love? I have no idea. Thank you for all the beautiful floral examples. Happy painting!

I am so excited about the gouache class, Mary Ann! I have painted in watercolor, oil and acrylics, but am a real novice at gouache! It is a totally different animal. I only have a very cheap set at the moment. Do you have recommendations? As far as the paintings you posted, they are inspiring me for a project (painting on wood) for Pam’s class. Those are such beautiful paintings, and honestly, yours fits right in. That lilac is wonderful!

Flower power! You’re too young to remember that phrase! By coincidence, Miss Moss, I’m just tampering with some new gouache paints I got – trying cakes instead of tubes. Love the lilac.

dang! you’re killing me here….I want to join in!!! I have so many classes to finish…You are having so much fun…I wanna’ come out and play too 🙁
Kate Burroughs says
Yippee! A new MaryAnn Moss class! Have to start purchasing some gouache. Any recommendations on colors to have?
Mary Ann Moss says
kate when i bought my first tubes i went strictly for colors i thought would be useful for mixing other colors with – can’t remember what they all were, if you poke around in my GOUACHE category you’ll probably find. but… i’d wait a bit before you buy too much. i’ll have a detailed informational section about gouache which everyone will have access to upon registering and before class starts. watch that video and read the accompanying blog post before you get anything. i’ll make that available approx. 6 weeks before the start of class. am anticipating a start date in June, but not 100% on that yet…

Great paintings. Been painting roses in acrylic with a three inch brush. Always a tough job so appreciate your post. Love all four of the “masters” you posted and only familiar with Valadon. Such thick impasto paint. So well done. Loving your lilacs too. A gouache sketchbooks et sounds like fun. I have two sets already. Yummy stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Sabrina says
Wonderful! I was getting more and more curious about gouache. Bought some tubes (they arrived yesterday, what timing!), and realized that I have no clue how to work with them…. Then I thought how wonderful a class similar to Sketchbookery would be, and I wanted to suggest that to you. Seems I am not the only one! So I can’t wait to sign up!!!
Util then I will play around and see where it leads me.
