a racoon raced up the lane the other night, hooked left, and skidded under my fence. a fugitive from justice.
i came inside and made some preliminary scribbles. in case i’m called upon as a witness. for something.
racoonery.
it’s what i do.
i scooted up the coast this weekend.
but only for 1 day. i had to dip my hot paws in the ocean. in another month i’ll be spending a week by the sea. oh i can’t wait! daily beach walks & visits with friends.
we’ve been having blistering hot weather. supposedly rain is coming tomorrow. we’ll just see about that.
today i zipped home after 2 hours of mind-numbing meetings.
i ran across this fellow a couple of weeks ago on a walk. i should walk back by and thumbtack this to the wooden fence.
maybe i will.
okay it’s a school night. i’m off to bed to dream of talking animals and fugitives.
see you soon!

I love the little raccoon; take a look at Pumpkin the Raccoon on Instagram. She lives in a house with gorgeous white linen furniture and two dogs. Miracles do happen! She is very housebroken and is just gorgeous, though I imagine her to have a personality somewhat like Edward Gorey’s The Doubtful Guest.

Nice that you got some beach time. It is so therapeutic, isn’t it? I love raccoons. I just do. Their little bandit masks are so fitting for their nature. You did a fine job of capturing their essence. How was bonding time with Trixie? That rooster is a fine looking fellow, let me tell ya! Great job! I have been working on lessons for Pam’s class, but am slightly behind, due to a week long cold. I also finally finished a watercolor of my house (in a journal) and a cover on my DLP Journal. Took long enough! If anyone wants to see the watercolor of my house (or other art) I would love to have you visit my Instagram. My name is #chynasgarden. Follows are always welcome too:). Thanks so much for posting so often, Mary Ann. I sure enjoy your adventures and sense of humor, A Merry heart does good, like a medicine. Write a book:)

love the charcoals, whites, grey, and browns in that very nicely done raccoon painting on the top! My raccoon story: at the end of a fall camping trip cooked up the last of the meat so that we could continue to enjoy that wonderful campfire flavor. We accidently left in on the picnic table and woke that night to find a family of noisy raccoons chowing down on our feast. They never stopped eating to thank us, but we laughed that we had spent time so carefully cooking dinner for them. If I can find the pics I can do a comp on them…ya never know if one of them is your raccoon.

Well what a delightful romp and stroll you’ve been having. Raccoons can be pretty darn sneaky and I won’t go into the few and far between roosters and hens I’ve crossed paths with in the burbs and they always make me smile. Good thing you are on the case, taking notes and capturing details is of utmost importance. Ya just never know, ya know??? 😉 My most recent encounter was with a glorious bald eagle that swooped down over the intersection I was waiting at, totally out of context and environment. I could have almost reached out and touched him, he was that close, he hoovered over my car for a second and then swooped back up and headed for the Burger King parking lot where he dropped down and that is where I lost him….I’d have given anything to have captured a shot but I’m holding that image in the image library I keep in my head. 😉 Keep havin’ fun in the sun, seaside or just in your own cozy backyard…..

My husband once found a raccoon on the front seat of his pickup while he was at work. The raccoon had grabbed his sandwich and tried to run away with it. I guess that is what happens when you leave your cab door open. This was broad daylight, BTW.

You make my day so enjoyable with your humor and your paintings/sketchbookerys, and photography, they are so fab! I long for more discipline, or energy, not sure which is it I need? Both I suspect!
