an old photo of the los angeles public library 1960’s on the right and the old crumbling “gutenberg” marquee poster i carried home from paris in 2005. i have gotten more mileage out of that poster than anything in my paper arsenal. anything!
that’s because it was so huge! in the early years i made color copies and used those instead of the original, but now i just rip off pieces of the delicate paper and sew them where i please.
the sea captain and his wife miniature portraits – from photos i took at the becoming america exhibit at the huntington. artist unknown.
very happy to have the captain and the missus inside the pages of my quirky sewn book. i plan to get to know them v. v. well.
and from the classroom i present a unicorn drawn on the inside cover of someone’s sketchbook.
someone else drew this on a white board. so fabulous!
i dashed home and started sewing old sketchpad scraps onto other paper.
what are you doing? something good i bet.

i love these pages — the sewing!!! And the postage stamps. And the Paris ephemera. Bring it on.

Intriguing! Love all of the scrumptious papers!
No creating here. Just cleaning my house like a crazy woman because the bridal party is getting ready at my house. About 9 women, one teen (my oldest grand angel) and one little flower girl (my youngest grand angel) ACCKKK! ! Today I cleaned my fridge to make room for yummy food, and washed and ironed curtains from my big dining room window. That took quite awhile between ironing and rehanging four big panels, plus the toppers. But it feels good getting it done, I must say. Later I am ironing my dress and my granddaughters dress. Most ironing I have done in YEARS! OH, and I forgot that I ironed 4 tablecloths too. Karen’s Laundry Service.
I promise I will get more interesting after this Saturday. Well…more interesting than wedding prep.
Your blog is my break time from all of the cleaning. But then, right back to work. Thanks for being there for me😀

you busy woman!
enjoy that party.
i used to iron my dad’s piles of handkerchiefs and the pillowcases when i was a kid.

Love the kid’s pictures! But most of all, I love seeing you sew paper and make journals. I still make my journals that way — the way I learned way back when in that wonderful class — Remains of the Day. Not to mention Full Tilt Boogie and Ticket to Venice. I never caught the watercolor bug but i do so love those older classes and the wonderful things I learned.

i was flipping through one of my ROD journals and loved touching all the paper bits. it’s nice isn’t it?

Love to see your sewn and other paper combinations again. I too am a student of your many paper capers and hope to see an upcoming paper class. You have such an amazing paper collection! Keep the photos coming – please…

Loving the thrill you are getting out of a new inspiration. Happy sewing. I am off to paint. Inspired by a week with Charles Reid and hanging out with Fealing Lin and Joe Miller at Cheap Joes last week in Boone NC. Always a wonderful experience. Keep those needles sharp!

Hi Mary Ann! I’m not sewing anything because I don’t have a sewing machine. My daughter returned my old Singer a long time ago, but it wasn’t worth getting it fixed. I will only purchase a sewing machine if I know I am going to use it … and I don’t right now. I’m planning on doing a canvas of flowers by initially finger painting with acrylic earth tones. After I do the flowers I will fill in the details and put them in a vase of some sort. Then I will frame it with a barnwood frame. It might eventually be entered in an exhibit. Otherwise, I’m still doing my VIDA clothing, accessories, and home decor and my proofreading/editing and taking care of my ailing husband work–plus giving attention to a 91-year-old mother and an 89-year-old mother-in-law–and, of course, some social activities and feeding the squirrels out back. Take care. xoxo
p.s. I haven’t been keeping up my new blog for a while!
