COMING IN JUNE! Registration & more information available in mid-May
I zipped home and thinned out my peaches according to Kate’s instructions. Thanks Kate!
Then I zipped inside read my comments from yesterday’s blog post and gasped when I read Michele’s comment about the class name. “Oh My Gouache!” Thanks Michele! It’s fabulous and I love it. I knew if I waited long enough the name would arrive via special delivery into my nutcracker. Once again DFLA peeps to the rescue!
The new class is going to be very much like SKETCHBOOKERY in that it’s really about the art of making & keeping a sketchbook. This is the special gouache edition.
I started experimenting with gouache in my sketchbook back in 2013. It’s a fantastic medium and produces velvety rich pages. I’m crazy about it and think you will be too once you get your sketchbook made, your palette prepared, and your brushes loaded. I’ve got a nifty new bookbinding stitch to teach along with a long stitch alternative for those who need something easier. 4-5 weeks of unbridled OMG sketchbookery! The pages in the photo above are similar, but not identical to the ones we’ll be making in class. Plus…of course, I have plenty of other brand new tricks up my sleeve. I think you’ll be pleased. As noted above, more specifics will be coming in a couple of weeks. I’ve got about a few more weeks of videotaping & class blog building to go. Due to my day job as a schoolmarm I’m moving at a snail’s pace, but I anticipate registration to open somewhere in the next few weeks and class to get underway in mid-June. Give me a couple of weeks and I’ll be able to nail down the dates.
See you soon!

So excited!!!!

I definitely want to take this class at a future date. Right now, I am just too busy with portraits. Your sketchbooks make it all look like so much fun. The colours are always just so luscious! I love the title too!
Diane Hock says
Ooh! I can’t wait!
Dana says
Me too Diane! This’ll be great… I may just go to the library and take out another Maira Kalman !
Rosemary says
Wow. Glad to hear about your new class. I’m looking forward to hearing more. I also saw the comment on the suggestions for names for the class and loved the title you picked. I guess we’re all on the same wavelength. What a wonderful place to be!
Marline says
Lmao about monkey whisperer. Then I got even more tickled by the word “schoolmarm “. More reasons why I love you. Or maybe it’s the vicodin?? MUST sign up for this as a reward for getting out of immobilizer sling post rotator cuff repair. Can’t wait, but then again, I will have to do just that!!! Dancing inside with joy, cuz dancing outside would result in neighbors calling police.
Vanessa Oliver-Lloyd says
So excited for this! I’ve been trying to get into gouache and have failed so bad until now! I am moving to Beijing this summer and will once again have the time to immerse myself in your world MAM! I can’t wait xxx
Joanne Chabot says
Do you have to have taken a previous sketchbookery class to follow this one?
Joanne Chabot says
… I mean… to take this one (never sure about my English…)!
Mary Ann Moss says
joanne – i would highly recommend taking SKETCHBOOKERY first if you don’t already have a foundation in drawing & painting with watercolor as i’ll be doing both in OH MY GOUACHE! but won’t be teaching either skill. make sense? if you already draw & paint with watercolor you’ll be good to go!
Joanne says
Thank you for your quick answer. I have to tell you that I’ve been following you for quite a while now and I love your work – so inspiring to me! You have some kind of a soul sister in Québec City…
sara berry the cute says

How exciting and fantastic. Your classes are always the bombest of the bombs. Can’t wait.
Karen Goetz says
Yup, the name is PERFECT! Mary Ann can you make any recommendations on gouache (brands and colors) prior to class? I will need to order some, since I just have a super cheap I brand. Pretty much that is all they sell at the craft stores near me. I know you also mix some of your own, so I will refer back to some of your previous gouache blog posts. I’m sure excited to take the class, since I am not very familiar with it. Yippee!!!
Mary Ann Moss says
the instant people are registered peeps can go to the class blog and watch a gouache paint video i’ll have up explaining EXACTLY what to get and giving lots of options…registration will start at least 4 weeks prior to start of class. since i like to complicate matters it’s a longish explanation of what to get and why….
Karen Goetz says
Thanks Mary Ann! You’re a peach! Oh…one of the peaches that was NOT thinned from the tree:). Cannot wait to get started, but no pressure…
Paula says

Dana says
Real water-soluble gouache… not the acrylic gouache, right? I have one but not the other. What a great way to play this summer!
Mary Ann Moss says
yes indeed the REAL thing. personally i can’t understand why the other stuff is labeled gouache. seems silly. it’s acrylic!
Dana says
I totally agree!!! Can’t wait… is it May yet?
Pernille Vestergaard says

Violet Cadburry says
