hey you crazy kids!
what’s shakin?
me? i just completed periscope no. 5. you can catch it HERE for the next 24 hours.
i felt like getting out my copics and playing around in my fabriano ecoqua sketchbook with the thin crinkly pages.
if the usually inaccurate weather reports are correct, a storm is headed our way. i won’t hold my breath, but the garden could really use a good soak.
i went for my early morning walk at the huntington gardens today. oh it was magnificent. the plum & cherry trees are still blooming. i saw an older gentleman in the chinese garden laying on a bench reading a book under a camelia tree.
i found the mausoleum of henry & arabella huntington today. it’s on a knoll surrounded by orange groves in an out-of-the-way part of the vast grounds. the jefferson memorial in DC was modeled after it. both were designed by john russel pope.
while i was wandering around, an old coyote trotted across my path. i wanted to feed him and brush him and tuck him into a nice dry den. poor dear, he looked hungry and forlorn.
old fashioned victorian box trees are perfuming the air around the mausoleum. the scent is intoxicating. i bet arabella huntington selected them to be planted around she & henry’s final resting place.
here is a sneak peek of the little cottage by the beach that i will be hunkered down in later this month. it’s tiny and surrounded by old trees & houses. i can’t wait to explore the neighborhood on foot.
a page from my big visual journal. earlier this week i drew a few birds while i facetimed with dottie.
the rain has started. i can hear the raindrops pinging off my porch awning. happy saturday night wherever you are. thanks for stopping by…

Watched the periscope last night, not live, alas. Thanks to you, I found others to follow on Periscope as well. @michelecoopart and @ohn_mar_win. I am digging these cute little periscopes. I’m hoping to get up to Santa Barbara in late April. Packing my watercolors, of course!

Yay! I got to watch the strawberry project while drinking my morning coffee. Very nice. I enjoyed seeing you work with the copic markers. Love the birds on this post, always love the way you do birds.

Just watched your Artistic Birth of Strawberries on the Periscope link. Now, in addition to having the need to eat some strawberries, I’ve gotten the itch to get out my Copics. Last year, I got my mitts on a non-bleed sketchbook made for Copics. Love the birds, of course. Wow, do I wish I had a park/garden like that to walk in. More inspiration for me to move west!

Good morning from Seattle, MAM. I just finished watching your strawberry periscope, and thoroughly
enjoyed it. I would have never guessed that you did them with markers if I hadn’t seen it. Love the painted backgrounds too. Also crazy about your birds, especially the one with the collage papers. Delightful! That cottage you will be staying in is just so charming. I hope you will post pics of the inside.
I am enjoying the photos of the garden, and definitely recognize the similarity of architecture of the building to the Jefferson Memorial. Now I really have to do some research, because enquiring minds want to know. I have a little fetish for looking things up, as we have established previously.
We had a hellacious windstorm here last night which was not forecast. I am pretty sure it was sustained winds of 35-45 and gusts as high as 65. I always get nervous, because we have two giant Douglas firs in the North and South sides of the house, and if they come down I shall be squished. I did a watercolor painting of my house which is on Instagram (chynasgarden), and you can see the trees in it. They dwarf the house. One is definitely old growth. The base is HUGE. I am not squished and the mighty trees stayed in their place.
I watch only one other person on Periscope, which is studio318 (Kathleen Pequinot). She is quite prolific, sometimes doing more than one scope a day. I think I got the name of her scope right, but if not I will correct it. She does many things, but I love her watercolors. The only prob I have is that they tend to be longish and my Ipad won’t let me watch the whole thing due to signal probs. When I go to re-establish the signal and go back, it makes me start all over, and won’t let me move ahead to where I left off. ANNOYING! I sure hope you decide to continue scoping. I really enjoy just watching and hearing you chat, or not chat depending on your mood. Have a great rest of your weekend!

those strawberries look good enough to eat! I am hoping reading about how much you enjoy walking will finally get me out the door and back into walking….I used to enjoy walking and taking photos as I walked, and I could certainly use the exercise! I enjoy your periscope chats,
cheers,
