i spent another glorious morning at the huntington library & gardens. i’m only 20 minutes away on surface streets. never have i been happier to live in north east LA. it’s nice to be tucked away up here in the hills far from the busier parts of the gleaming metropolis and oh so close to a rich wonderland of gardens & parks.
with my new membership i can get in at 8 am – regular hours are 10:30 – 4:30. this morning it was cloudy and cool. just me, myself, and i tromping all over the grounds.
here follows a creative summary of my weekend.
i added paper & marker to these contour portraits from january.
the weekend comes to a close. now i’m off to watch the oscars and play with my copic markers.
see you soon!

Your irises are awesome, love them all. What are those fringy hangy down pink flowers? I am seriously in love with those. The photograph and your painting of them..wow. I went to the Huntington only a couple of times, many years ago when I lived in California. It’s so lovely. How nice that you are so close, and can go there often.

how do you feel about people pinning your photos and artwork?
Mary Ann Moss says
i love pinterest and think pinning (with proper link back credit) is a great service to any artist as it gets their work into greater and greater circulation. PIN AWAY! and thanks for doing it. i consider it a compliment.

I think doing blind contour drawings is the inspiration for the Mad Max costume and makeup artists.

I am Oh-So-Jealous. The Huntington Library is so wonderful, and if I lived in southern California I’d join in a minute. Love the watercolor, especially the iris! Lovely…

I love the Huntington. Years ago I came across a plant there that made me swoon because of its pretty yellow flowers and strong lemon scent, and I wrote down the name (tagetes lemonii) and since then I have planted dozens of these fabulous Mexican Marigolds. In fact, I bought 7 x 1 gallon pots yesterday and will be planting them on my slope. Thank you, Huntington!
Mary Ann Moss says
oh i can’t WAIT to run into that glorious plant on my jaunts at the Huntington! thanks for telling us about it!

Those irises are lovely!! Especially the partially included darker veins, adds so much depth to the watercolor.
