at last the long 3-day weekend has arrived and i am here, luxuriating in the center of it. ahhhhhh.
so good to hear silence. and birdsong. and regular neighborhood sounds. a peaceful ambiance. just what i need!
i thought i was headed to another food group in my sketchbook but ZIP DANG DOO! squirrels appeared on my radar. catapulting me out of the sugar group and into the woodlands.
i finally found a use for my midori traveler’s journal, which i am not crazy about. it was an impulse purchase over a year ago. i am going to draw squirrels in it. maybe a few rabbits, skunks, bears, racoons. who knows what all i will get up to in there!
maybe it will be my new writing journal. hmmmmm… perhaps i will start drawing bread or figs.
you try and plan, but then some ideas crowd out other ones. that’s how it goes.
ya know?
when i return home from car shopping (my beloved car of 11 years is terminally ill) i am planning to periscope. i have no idea right now what i will do in my sketchbook during the broadcast…we’ll see what shows up.
i’ll flip through these pages in my new small sketchbook so you can see what’s happening!
see you soon!

Loving these quirky pages. Wish I could do them. Instead I do pretty watercolors. Sigh! These are so much more fun.

Also, I like the canary with the Venetian mask beak in the first picture. I do.

I’m very partial to squirrels. In fact, I was planning on doing a squirrels only blog post in the near future in case anyone else felt the same way. So naturally, I’m loving those sketches, especially the dude by the fence. Looks like a 1950s book illustration (which is very nice in my opinion). If you decide to go into bears, let me know.

I do like squirrels, but right now we are in a war for our attic. The attic has been built out as a game room/extra bedroom, so we have had several I our house! Your sketching is gorgeous as usual. Maybe you
could draw a couple of squirrels sitting on a couch playing X-box. ?

Loving your squirrelly pages! I am just nuts over them! You have to give us an up-periscope warning so we can get into optimum viewing position. I am planning on attending but need sufficient time to prepare snacks and beverages.

Hey great rodents, Mary Ann! I adore squirrels. Try not to get to close to the skunks & bears! Now, can someone tell me when I can know when you periscope so I can watch it LIVE??? Technically challenged in WA.
Mary Ann Moss says
Karen,
Get the periscope app, follow me, and turn on the notification. i think that’s it!
Karen Goetz says
I have already done the first two:). Now to turn on notification.
Mary Ann Moss says

Yeppers, that was me. I really enjoyed your little critters. That was FUN! It went by way too fast!

MAM, you are so talented! You captured the cute quirkiness of these little scavengers! Your pages show quick, playful drawing and color. Love it. I’m going to try this in my small journal. Enjoy your long weekend and recoop. You earned it.

Hi Mary Ann! Thanks for this post and your great art on squirrels. I had four of them (I think males because they were a bit on the plump side) on the patio this morning eating peanuts. I put enough out in different places for all of them to get some. I think they figured that out after they were chasing each other away initially. Then the birds swooped in. They all got some nourishment! Best to you for your long weekend!

The entire composition of the Mrs. Red Squirrel page is sheer perfection, from the sticker like date to the colorful potpourri at her feet!!!! And I haven’t even mentioned the bushy tail and all the shades of reddish brown in her coat.
