i’ve been meaning to share the sketches done by syd & mary while in guatemala. so here they are! syd’s are above, mary’s below.
i didn’t get a photo of mary’s beautiful, cloth-covered, travel journal, but here is syd’s.
i think her choice of colors, particularly on the spine (!) have such richness & depth.
what an extravagant week we had together in antigua. drawing with friends is a carnival ride – the good kind that don’t make you dizzy. the atmosphere is charged with delight. there is much laughter admiration inspiration. all of that. good good stuff.
this semester-long leave from my day job has turned out well. i return to work in january, but i’m not finished living it up quite yet. i have 2 more trips planned. both in california. one to the coast and the other to the desert. if you’ve got some big or small adventure looming you can bet i’ll need to be kept informed.

I enjoy all your travels and other adventures, as always, Mary Ann! Don’t know which direction you are headed, but I used to buy rubber stamps from a stamp maker, Steven Vander Meer, who has a place to stay that is attached to his studio. Links below. He also makes amazing animated films using hundreds of drawings on index cards. And they have cats. 🙂
I always thought if I got out that way, I’d try out his little studio apartment!

I love it ALL! I adore the drawing of you Mary Ann, and I laughed out loud at the recline sketch of Mary posing! it reminded me so much of the posing scene of Rose when Jack was sketching her on the movie Titanic! Delightful! And you were right about the spine on Syd’s journal. Yumminess! I am having no adventures which is why I am living vicariously through yours. My daughters and I participated in a craft sale today in a nearby small town. One daughter was selling photographs and trying to drum up business, and the other an I had canvases and some other items we were selling. Let’s just say that we spent more than we made:). Bit we met some lovely people, so there’s that! BTW, Bev is right…the print here is very faint and tiny.
