i scooted up the coast yesterday morn to play with joyce, sharron, and katie.
8 years ago when i was in oregon and met dear judy, i missed out on an opportunity to meet katie. drat! i knew eventually my turn would come round again and it finally did. she stayed a few days with our mutual friend joyce who invited me up for a mini-art retreat.
november is my favorite month on the coast.
the air is like glass. the islands sharply outlined.
that’s katie & sharron at water’s edge.
we made time for 10 minute timed portraits. i did mine with watercolor
and water soluble pen. i hope katie, sharron, and joyce will be posting theirs to facebook. they’re RICH!
when it got dark we laid in chaises under the sky and watched for shooting stars and screamed when we spotted one.
i painted more nature treasure
this page from earlier in the week…
sharron went to the farmer’s market and brought back pretty veggies to sketch.
my night owl ways kept us all up to 2 am. poor katie had to get up early and catch the train to santa ana for her class which begins tomorrow. lucky people attending that…i saw what she’s going to teach and it looks like such fun.
today i reunited with syd & mary. how good it was to see them for lunch at renaud’s in santa barbara. if you go, i highly recommend the croque-madame. syd has a new post up about her trip to guatemala. go see!
hope you’re well. hope you’re happy. doing good things. looking up at the stars every night. playing with friends.

November is also a favorite of mine for the coast. I’m still hanging out in Carp, heading off in a few minutes to go catch the sunset. I love the way the sand catches the rosy pink in your photos.

Hello Mary Ann, I’ve been following your blog since last summer and I love it!!!!! You have inspired me so much to start painting again. And with watercolor too. I’ve never used watercolor, just oils. So I joined your sketchbookery class last month and I love that too. I wish that I had gone to Renaud’s yesterday instead of 3 days ago. I could have met you!! You would have been my first celebrity siting since I moved to Santa Barbara 10 years ago. 🙂 Thanks for all your inspiring sketchbook pages and all your happy words. God bless.
