i have something to tell you.
this is my apartment in stockholm. i love everything about it.
except that today was my last day in it.
tomorrow i’m headed home.
except…
this happened:
dear mary ann moss,
we regret to inform you that your return flight home has been, alas, delayed by 9 hours. fret not, for you can simply rebook your flight free of charge. we urge you to stay one more week in stockholm. it’s the right thing to do and besides you know you want to. after all you are on a leave of absence and when else can you act so impulsively?
love,
norwegian airlines
say whaaat?
yes. it’s true. auspicious news was received via text message from the airline this morning. i did the only thing i could do.
i rebooked. insert gales of laughter.
my apartment wasn’t available. so i found another.
still on södermalm, but in a new area to explore.
eek!
i wanted to share some red & white beauty with you today.
so i started this post about some things i’ve been feasting my eyes on. this was earlier today, before i got sidetracked with the flight delays.
i’ll just get back to it now…
if you should go to the nordiska museet BE SURE to stop in the textile room and open up every single drawer.
otherwise you will miss an astonishing amount of gorgeous embroidery, needlepoint, cross stitch and other handwork.
a dizzying collection.
and that would be v.v. sad.
this vintage cut paper piece was in a display case at the museum (obviously not the textile room).
patterns from josef frank at svenkst tenn.
more delicious textiles from nordiska museet.
svenskt tenn. just go.
a shop along hornsgatan in the mariatorget area of södermalm (the island i’m staying on). this was the same shop where i snapped the photo of the large collage piece from above.
tomorrow i move into my new home for the week.
broadcasting to resume shortly.
love from sweden!

Surely you must be Irish to have that kind of luck! Even a teeny weeny bit. Too bad the apartment was booked, it’s all white, my favorite interior decor. What a special trip this has been. Oh Mary Ann, thank you so much for allowing us to see Stockholm through your eyes. My husband and I just returned from there and sadly only had one afternoon to spend before getting on a ship. I regretted not having more time, but even more so after reading your amazing posts this week . . . and now we have another week to savor thanks to Norwegian airlines! I would really love to know about your apartment there as I plan to return soon and have no clue as to how to even look for the places you find on your journeys! I’ll send you a note by email when you are back home. Thank you for being so generous with our lens, your words and your art! xx
