48 hours ahead of me to poke around the house and garden and find more things to paint.
when i was in amsterdam late 2013, i only brought gouache with me. the ittiest bittiest tubes imaginable. one late afternoon i ran out of white and i zipped out the door to a little art shop a couple blocks away for some gouache. that’s where the longer PLAKKAATVERF tubes came from…
anyway, they were inexpensive so i picked up a few. here are the links to my:

Hi Mary Ann,
I love your gouache painting of the bottle. Then i followed the link and studied your Amsterdam sketchbook, which is fabulous by the way. I was searching the internet for inspirations for my up coming sketchbook workshop in SE England and Provence. Once I got to your sight I need to go no further looking for inspiration. Thanks again for sharing your artwork and thoughts on life and your great sense of humor. Barbara

I think you’ll enjoy her travels and paintings.

I always enjoy following you along on your amazing journeys, going places tucked in your pocket and enjoying all of the views…I could spend hours looking at your trip photos. You’ve given me special glimpses of places my feet will never have a chance to walk. You are the bestest travel companion I know…the views from here are pretty darn amazing.

oh can’t wait for Sketchbookery 2! I want to dive into no.1 but am lacking time. Next year we are moving to Beijing and I should have plenty of time (and inspiration) to sketchbook with you!
Mary Ann Moss says
lori,
it’s velvety and gives everything a painterly look which i like v.v. much! if you want to play with it get yourself an inexpensive set and play around with it. i find it’s a steeper learning curve than watercolor, but most enjoyable. SKETCHBOOKERY No. 2 will feature plenty of gouache experimentation!
Lori Schoen says
Love!
Hey, why do you like Gouache so much and what does it offer in comparison with regular watercolors? Is it because it is opaque? Shall we chimps invest in it? I’m curious-er and curious-er. Would you recommend one to purchase the white and mix up some colors with our watercolor paints? What say you?
I hope to go to Norway in the not so far away future. Loved the sharing of that trip. Thanks, Mary Ann.
Happy weekend!

Lovely painting of the vinegar bottle! Thanks for telling us about this product- will have to look for it at TJ ‘s.

I adored your Amsterdam trip. Hubby and I went there many long years ago, when we lived in Germany. He was in the military so we had no $$ but it was still glorious. Would so love to go back again some day. In the meantime, will go along with you again through your journal.
Your vinegar bottle painting is much prettier than the real one. Yikes. I must take myself off to TJ’s and get me some of that vinegar. It sounds delicious. Yes, we finally have a TJ’s here in Austin. Yay!

That vinegar bottle sketch/painting is beautiful. Also like being able to look back at your awesome travel journals. They always motivate me to get crack-a-lackin’.
Maria says
Your pomegranate vinegar jar painting is killin’ me! You got mad skillz.
Sister! says
Sister! Let’s go to Amsterdam and stay at this apartment and walk to the art store and buy gouache with Dutch names and make masterpieces like the Dutch masters as we sit in front of the window and watch the people walk by. Good idea huh? We go in 2016 since 2015 trip already planned. Ok?
Lin says
Haha, I’m Dutch and was already wondering why you have the same white plakaatverf as I do… Thanks for clearing that up. 😉 And I want to stay in that apartment for a sketching weekend!!
muriel says
I love Amsterdam. I’ve been there twice. It is one of the European cities I’d like to live in. The others being London and Barcelona which I also know a little.
María Luisa Naval says
I love your paintings! Always you makes me smile.
Trish says
Miss Moss, your sketches and comments make my heart sing. Thank you for weekly doses of goodliness.
Sharron says
Sure do remember vicarious Amsterdam… Didn’t you promise to go back again with Sister? If she’s not available, there might be some Bobcats that would like an adventure…
Linda J Miller says
I have been wanting to go to Amsterdam ever since your trip. I made it for 18 hours on a layover from Paris to NYC. At least I got to walk along the canals in the dark, and practice not getting run over by a bicycle!
Sandy Derryberry says
I remember drooling over those trip photos…Yes, I want to go with you on your return visit …if only through your pictures:-)
