feels good to be getting more exercise than usual.
shadows are following me. it’s okay, i like them.
san cristobal has many different barrios. 11 in the central part of town. each has a designated church and associated patron saint. they also have distinct celebrations and feast days. traditionally the inhabitants of certain barrios had particular skills. one is known for their pork merchants, their carpenters, metal work, ceramics, leatherwork, or bakers, and so on and so forth.
i’m not sure if the colors of the streamers are exclusive to each barrio. i will find a resident expert to ask! i happen to know a very nice one.
i told you the sidewalks were high!
i had lunch today in a sweet little restaurant on a little hill overlooking part of the city. like all good things, i stumbed upon it by accident.
it’s a simple pleasure to come home to a clean house – the doors propped open with stones – take my shoes off, and commence a series of very important leisure activities.
i have a bazillion photos to share today! will attempt to get them in the right order. no promises.

Am drooling over all the colors and greenery. LOVE Mexico and hope to return someday. Until then, thanks for including me in your trip! You must try a gaspacho while you’re there (a huge fruit cup with mango, pineapple, OJ, lime juice, jicama, chile powder, queso fresco – mmmmmm).

Big deep sigh:) It is so reassuring to know that there are parts of Mexico that carry on despite the turmoil elsewhere. Your photos and observations make virtual traveling so enjoyable. Got to see one of your footie pictures, I know you’ve taken a few.

I turned my house upside down and finally found this for YOU:
Taller de los Leñateros
Flavio A. Paniagua #54
You must go-it’s a cooperative where they make paper, artists books and prints using the natural materials of the area. Am so excited for you to get to go that I’m wriggling as I write.
yay you!

Beautiful pix of a very charming place. The food shots are great too. I’m enjoying your visit and tales of the place. Can’t wait to see what else you find.

Thanks for the pics … getting a feel for your place of bliss. Same here in SMA with the sidewalks. During the rainy season I’ve stepped off the sidewalk and been up to my calf in water. Don’t want to be wearing your dancing shoes! ha ha. Donna

Mary Ann- Your photos are amazing and awesome and OMG!!!!!! And you were not kidding about the high curbs…DH and DD took the time to even come look over my shoulder as I gasped out loud…DH also seemed quite interested in your drink and yummies. I am loving taggin’ along visiting all these cool little nooks and crannies around the area. I love how you take the time to learn about the places you visit as it adds another layer to the journey. I am enjoying each post and when I click on the permanent link I keep for your blog, I get seriously excited just hoping you’ve posted something new.

I live in Colombia where the sidewalks are also high…with good reason. In rainy season…the arroyos will carry a bus down the road if he’s unlucky enough to get caught in the wrong spot. The sidewalks help keep the pedestrians from being washed into the shark infested Rio Magdelena! – Beautiful pix!
