Will you get a load of the baby visual journalers? I love so many things about these pages, but mainly how one good idea leads to another and another and another. Check out that pop-up device the kiddo used on the page above. On. Her. Own.
Yep. These kids get the most important thing about art making: action yields inspiration NOT the other way around. More leads to MORE.
Not one of these little artists ever sit and stare at the blank page. Nope. They dive in and let their intuition and excitement and HUGE ideas guide them. I LOVE that. I love it very very much.
I always have a ticklish place in my heart for the ones who ignore what's happening all around them and charge ahead in their own direction.
He knows I think he's a genius too. He walks up to me and says in a sing songy voice, "Oh Miss Moooooossssssssssssssss, you're really really gonna like this one."
Uh yes. I do. I do multiplied by 600. Go on with your bad self!
Thanks again to the generous soul who donated the super shiny tape, the frames, flowers, and butterfly wallpaper border. Big hit. HUGE.

Hiya! Floated over here from Ginny’s.
Oh, my… arting with children is so fun! And I am floored by the one with the shark (?). Hearts and flowers, butterflies and saints… and then dum, dum, DUM!!!
All of them are fabulous. Well done, everyone! What fun 🙂

I have 2 kids. The oldest shows me most things he does seeking approval. My little one who is ten now presents her art like she is Picasso. Love that about her. Coaxing it out of my son. Darn that girl in preschool who told him he was a scribble scrabbler. Enjoy your blog so much.

Let’s do the math, figure out when they’ll all be graduating and warn the Art Center in Pasadena that they’ll be having a Talented Horsey Tsunami in the year…..???

ALL kids are cool – it is 100% up to the adults to realize that and choose to see them that way (goes for non-kids too).

You are an amazing teacher. You allow this to happen, good for you! And of course what cool kids you are blessed to be around every day.

Wow Ms. Moss, you have a hive of activity going on there. I wanna be in your class! Action first – I’ll have to remember that one. (Tho sometimes I do …just start with anything and then find myself amazed that the process takes over…On Its Own.)
Chrissy says
That’s so true – about plunging in and letting the inspiration follow.
Inspirational teaching helps a lot too, Mary Ann!
And thanks so much to your sister – I can’t wait for spring when the cranes pass over our village in France on their way from Russia to the Middle East. That’ll be me, out there with my arms held high.

Journal pages are fantastic! my personal favorite is the scar face spread.
In regards to quote above about birds…
I once saw a woman reach down and pick up a baby bird that was having trouble getting off the ground and she whooshed it into the air and it took off on it’s own power (kind of like helping someone you know learn to ride a bike) anyway… she told me that if you EVER see a flock of birds flying overhead in a V formation you should run and stand under them with your arms raised up in a V and it will bring you the best of luck. I ALWAYS do it because anyone who can whoosh a baby bird back into flight knows a lot in my book. I feel it’s my duty to pass this along to your readers.

I am in awe! We adults work day after day trying to be as free and led by our intuition as these wonderful Jr. Artists have at their beck and call. Amazing!
Peace & Love,

I’m with Chris in her comment above. You are so lucky to have these little teachers. Why do we think we can teach children art? They ARE art, aren’t they? I keep thinking about that famous remark of Pablo Picasso, about spending the rest of his life trying to draw like a child.
YES!
They are so lucky to have an adult student who understands this. And thank you for letting us peek. I am dazzled!

I’m just awed. I’m awed completely. I’m taken aback. I’m taken so aback I’m practically forward.
This is SO brave of them! They are creating journals in front of each other! They are working Around Other Kids! maybe that only seems brave to ME. They are doing more and more from themselves! They are writing and drawing in their Own Hands! I am going to have to take a class from Them!
I’m nonplussed. I’m so nonplussed, I’m minused.

Wow! How amazing… My favs are the football (?) player that is mostly drawn and is getting his shoulders covered in rain and the juxtaposition of the gnarly shark with hearts and roses on top of it.

Have been lurking around your blog for awhile and think it’s time I started leaving comments. Love your thinking and your way of expressing yourself. Love how you see the world around you. Love your work. And what an important truth you shared about your kids’ art work: action yields inspiration, not the other way around. That’s something we all need to remember. Start in! Glad you discovered Ivan Doig. I like the Montana Trilogy, starting with English Creek.

I feel like all I do some days is stare at the blank page…I blink and then move on to something else entirely…it’s so super cool that they love it and don’t care and go for it…i am inspired and love that you are teaching these little ones!! they are indeed lucky!!

What joy on their faces, in their books and on my face, seeing such enthusiasm and confidence in their work. If only there could be a profession of art journalling.

I also love seeing those faces and their delight and pride.
Speaking for us humans, thank you for giving this experience to the babies.
