Leaving Sunday on my Voyage of Discovery Fact Finding Mission Roadtrip. Going to see parts of California I've NEVER seen!!! A drive through the Eastern Sierras up HWY 395. First stop, Bishop. (You know, where The Other Side of the Mountain with a young cute Beau Bridges was filmed.) Next up a layover in Yosemite. Which I'll be approaching from the road less traveled on the east: the Tioga Pass, California's highest mountain pass. In a few short weeks snow will close this little road until May. Hopefully I make it there before the snow does.
After my stint in Yosemite there'll be plenty of ghost towns and old mining towns to discover as I head north on HWY 49. This is gold rush territory! I'll be traveling light. A stack of books, journal, maps, camera, roadtrip music, gold panning equipment, spare change for ice cream sandwiches, and an overnight bag tossed on the front seat. A week's worth of adventure. Blissfully alone with my active imagination.
Finally, I land in Grass Valley where Lyman Ward, narrator of Angle of Repose lives. Sure the book was written back in 1971, but I know Lyman will still be there in his house waiting for me with a hot cup of tea and a stack of old photos and journals to show me. He knows I'm coming. I have plenty of questions for him. I hope he's in the mood to answer all of them.
Someone thinks I should stay put.
Make more time for him.

Love wandering road trips to see what you can see…. That BODIE Ghost town off of Hwy. 395 is a must in that area of CA. I love that area- THAT is where the California Happy Cows live! …reminds me of Colorado, too. oops, I just saw the first comment say the same thing;)

My favorite parts of California…too bad you aren’t taking in Red’s Meadow and other spots. Highway 395 is great for getting to a host of intersting spots.
And…of course ghost towns and where the 49ers searched for gold in “them there hills” is the best…
Can’t blame catkid…you know they get lonely without their moms…lol.
Enjoy your trip!

This is the best kind of adventure… I do it too..alone with the music and the open road, and all the ideas! WIll you be punished by cat when you get home with the ol’ “freezarino” treatment?

Who does the cat posse trust to pamper them in repentance while you are away?
I see Inyo valley on the map – a number of films were made there, my most favorite was Nevada Smith with Steve McQueen (pause for sigh).
How long do you plan to be on the road?
I have been to Grass Valley – lovely place.
Be safe bold traveler. We look forward to your tales and pictures when you return (after apologizing to the felines).
