we motored off across the lagoon to a lavendaria with a view on the island of guidecca (joo.deck.uh). our trader joe’s bags clustered around us. i stuffed everything in my biggest packing cube, put on my pajama bottoms (tights) and extremely form fitting red sweater, and away we went. ordinarily i would not be caught dead in such a skin-tight getup, but luckily i had my raincoat over the top. i only brought 2 pairs of pants and i needed to wash them both!
while our laundry churned away, we took turns going on solo walks along the fondamente and various passages leading to tiny campos and more canals.
the washer in our apartment is on the blink. an inconvenience, but no matter, we enjoyed our outing on guidecca. there were few tourists and we found a delicious restaurant for a cozy lunch. as we were being seated a nice lady who came to collect our coats and our bags of laundry. even i don’t eat in my coat. it’s the beauty of being a stranger in a strange land – you aren’t going to run into an ex-boyfriend or neighbor or anyone to see you in your embarrassing outfit.
now i’m here writing this from the living room.
fog just drifted past our window and a boat just floated by… time to start the day. the internet really only works early in the morn. it’s extremely unreliable and stops working without warning so i type fast and hope all of my images get uploaded.
thanks for the fun comments. i love reading them.

What a fabulous story! And this will make a long lasting memory no doubt. It’s the wonky stuff that is easier recalled and makes the best stories.

I’ve so enjoyed traveling through Venice vicariously with you, and I love your descriptions of the water and, well, everything!
It is so wonderful to visit places like this during winter when the crowds are low and the chill is in the air. I also liked seeing that little peek of your journal. I was happy to hear you say that any journal that you create will be enough. I have come to that conclusion, too.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday!

Delightful! Even a trip to the laundromat sounds fun. I swore last I’d stay in Venice for six months last time I went and you are reminding me just how much I want to do it. Have fun ragazza.

When the US news is awful, when the Global news is tragic, I know I can count on your dispatch to cheer me up, to brighten my senses, to make me observe the little things and take pleasure in all. Who new doing laundry in Venice could be so beautiful, so quaint, so joyful! May you and Dottie have a joyful Christmas playing in Venice! Save travels back!
