hello all! even though it’s late summer, here in los angeles we’re entering our hottest time of the year. thankfully the windows are double-paned and keep out the blazing heat. i marvel at that blast of heat from our star, traveling 93 million miles to reach us. wow. still so so hot.
i’ve been tidying piles of paper. cleaning out drawers and finding old scraps from long ago. constantly thinking of sewing scraps together. i’ve been sending out mail and getting some too.
i sewed recent postage from japan & france into my sketchbook.
this sketchbook to be exact. it’s a portfolio i bought in venice back in 2012, but a few years ago i sewed some paper into it and turned it into a book.
i cracked it open today and saw my last entry for this particular book was back in april. i’ve gotten out of the sketching/watercolor habit the last few months while i’ve been busy sewing paper. i’m channeling my paper & thread addiction into mailart but i think i’ll resume my watercolor journaling.
i found a gorgeous old pile of vintage receipts on ebay. the calligraphy & lettering is rich & wonderful. so artfully designed. i love turning them over and over in my hands. they seemed to want to come and live on the pages of my sketchbook.
looking forward to my seaside retreat over the upcoming holiday weekend. i am dying to walk out across that silvery sand and see a misty shore, water that almost looks lilac and grey, then as the sun begins to rise the water turns golden. dawn walks along the shore. i’ve been dreaming of them.
i think i’ve reached the end of my post. the sun hasn’t set yet that means i am heading outside to my outdoor desk to write in my journal. i dragged a giant wooden chair out of my garage, threw a tablecloth over an old patio table, and i sit out there in the evenings with the twinkly lights turned on. heaven.
see you soon!

Beautiful images. I have a stash of old paper money from all over the world – gorgeous etchings on some. I’m thinking they would be wonderful to use, but haven’t been able to bring myself to do it. Cool stuff on both sides. Have a wonderful weekend!

Those photographs are all lovely and I wouldn’t mind sitting outside in the twilight with you and pasting things in my journal…..even if I am a wimp from San Francsco who think 70-degrees is too hot.

i think that would be fun
i am a wimp from LA who thinks anything out of range of 50-65 is too extreme. ha ha ha ha ha!!! hence my vacations to cooler climes…most of the time.
