5 days till sister & i meet up in seattle, then climb aboard our chariot, and drive about 90 miles north bound for our nest on lummi island, which. i just found out rhymes, not with roomy as i thought, but with yummy.
finishing up with last minute STITCH*BOOKERY tasks. i’m editing my very last video, and tying up loose ends. class launches 2 days after i return from puget sound and i will be ready to roll! what a joy it’s been to sew the summer away making books and wading in scraps.
we’ve had a sweltering week, but today it was a cool 89 degrees. i’m giving the garden a deep soak before i go.
it will get watered by the pet sitters while i’m gone, but i’ll feel better knowing it got one last long drink. i remember the days when i worked at a year-round school and did my traveling in the spring & fall. i do miss that off-season travel. less to worry about when the weather isn’t scorching hot.
my little oak out back had her skirts raised and now i have a beautiful view of the hills again.
i’ve been giving my binoculars a work out scanning the houses that dot the hillsides. how i wish i had a good travel pair of binocs. if you have some you’ll have to let me know.
i enjoy early mornings and evenings out back.
i started the netflix series “anne with an e”. a new adaptation of anne of green gables. the scenery on prince edward island, where the series takes place, is stunning. the series is just fantastic. haven’t enjoyed a series this much since the durrells in corfu. crossing my fingers that anne has a 2nd season. naturally i’m curious about prince edward island. if you’ve been, i’ll need to know!
as usual a hodge podge post with all the news that’s fit to print! just felt like taking a break from “work” to send a dispatch out into the world.
hope you’re doing something good. see you soon!

Prince Edward Island has become more touristy since the bridge from the mainland was built. Wilder in the old days, when you had to take a ferry ride to get there. Still lots of ocean beach and great mussels to enjoy on a visit. I have a close friend that lives on PEI most of the year, but escapes to South Carolina for the worst part of the Canadian winter.

Wish you were staying in Seattle for a while so we could meet up for a cuppa! Have a wonderful time! We have been having unbelievably spectacular weather — best summer in recent memory!

“Anne With An E” is superb and I was so sorry when it ended and I pray for another season, and soon. The cast is superb and it’s beautiful and well-edited, too. Just a great, great show. Anne is spunky girl-she’ll make it alright!
Have you seen the Wonder Woman movie? Oh my, that is awesome-a real masterpiece! Lots of great messages in the movie, too. If you haven’t seen it, be sure to go!
Have fun on your trip to Lummi Island!

Ditto on the cedar plank salmon. But any salmon here is usually quite a treat.

Your little backyard oasis looks so inviting, especially with your newly opened view. I will be thinking of you and Carol on your island vacation. I think our week on San Juan Island was the best vacation we’ve ever had!
Mary Ann Moss says
i hope we get lucky and spot some orcas like you did!

I have been to Prince Edward Island! It was my first trip after your class Remains of The Day and I used that journal to document the trip. Beautiful place. Anything related to Anne of Green Gables is pretty touristy (except the author’s home) and I was a tad disappointed in that. But still worth a trip for everything else!
Mary Ann Moss says
so hard to escape the tourist throngs these days, but at the same time really wonderful that so many people have the opportunity to see the world.
i’ll have to do some investigating of PEI for myself!

I just had to ask if you watched the 1985 version of Anne of Green Gables, with Megan Follows? It is so amazing and seared into my heart. If you haven’t, I beg you to watch it. This version seems rather bleak and has really changed the characters.

My daughter lives in Seattle and I just know you are going to have the best time! Also I got a sewing machine , so if I can figure out the basics I can sign up for class! Yahoo!!!! Have a great trip!
Mary Ann Moss says
i’ve never been!
you used to live on the west coast right?
Nulls says
Yes and my parents took us on a road trip every year when I was little that ended in Washington ! My daughter and her husband kept vacationing there and fell in love with Seattle and packed up and moved there! I love every bit of it ! Haven’t been to where you are headed though but have enjoyed exploring on visits- also the flowers there are incredible – tons of flower farms – can’t wait to see your sketchbooks!!! Jealous!!!

Nulls, your comment intrigues me because I am searching out places to relocate to from Upstate NY. Northern NY is gorgeous, but I’ve lived in the north since I was two years old, and the harsh winters here have finally gotten to me. A friend and neighbor who travels a lot suggested Seattle to me. She loves it there, so I decided to put it on my list of places to check out. I don’t want to move to a place where it it hot all year round either. I enjoy all four seasons. I just need a place where winters are typically very mild.

I live in kind of upstate New York now haha- I have for about 4 years now- until then I always lived in Southern California – I would love to relocate to the Seattle area too! The winters here are not fun and the summers are so sticky! I am nullsie on Instagram if you want to send me a private message! All I can say is that my daughter is loving it there!
Diana Self says
Gosh, thanks for giving me the idea! We spend the summers in Maine and I just checked Google Maps and it’s a 7 1/2 hour drive from our cabin to Prince Edward’s Island! Nova Scotia is right around there too. I’ll let you know if we go.
Mary Ann Moss says
oh those places are all foreign countries to me. i am itching to get across the continent and go to there!
summers in maine…oh i like the ring of that!
Lynette (NZ) says
Happy Holidays Miss Moss. Hope to see you in class when you get back. I LOVED Anne with an E as well – scurrying off to investigate the Durrells now 🙂
Mary Ann Moss says
oh the durrells are such a pleasure. wish i hadn’t seen so i could start anew!
Xenia says
If you have an Amazon Prime subscription, the first season of The Durrells in Corfu is included in it.
