hello to you!
i am making an attempt to post my travel journal pages in chronological order. even though i know i will end up posting all of my pages in each travel journal here i don’t think about it when i’m in the process of writing each page or drawing/painting each sketch. whether they’re seen or not, they’re going to look exactly the same. i have no self-conciousness whatsoever about my travel books or my sketchbooks for that matter. so here we have it. altogether in one glorious mess that captures 10 days of my life.
the wabbits are from some delightful mark hearld cards i found on bainbridge island.
spending my days piddling around the cottage and in the garden. also listening to my newest audible book which i’m crazy about. an unnecessary woman
i’m having quite a run with the audio books this summer. one after the other. oh the simple pleasure of being read a story. a small passage from the book:
I long ago abandoned myself to a blind lust for the written word. Literature is my sandbox. In it I play, build my forts and castles, spend glorious time.
goodnight friends.

Ahem….perhaps you could use a nicer class of stickers…something with shorter ears. I find myself completely distracted and unable to focus when those rabbits keep popping up 🙂
Mary Ann Moss says
oh you’re so bad mistress of longears!

As usual, such a wonderful journal. I love them all from afar. And I LOVED the little wabbits too! I am so glad you told us all where they came from… b/c I was going to ask!
I am so sorry I am not in the first run of the class — but my old machine is DOA and when I called the repair place the guy basically told me the machine probably wasn’t worth fixing. (translated, it would cost more to fix then replace with a newer better model). And a new machine is not in the cards right this moment.
Keep up the eye candy!

hi claire and thanks. stitchbookery isn’t going anywhere. it’s here for the long haul..so you’re good.

So, if I read this right, you went to Bainbridge to Port Townsend, to Whidbey up over Deception Pass then to Lummi all in one day??? Good Grief, I can’t imagine a trek like that. Arriving in Coupeville I expect you headed north and off Whidbey which means you missed all of South Whidbey. And, although it does have its beautiful parts, I’m partial to the South end where I live. Love your journal pages and the style of mix and match.
Mary Ann Moss says
yeah. it was cwazy!
when one goes to lummi island one stays there.
more southerly parts of the sound are for an entirely different trip. no matter how fabulous. would love to do that sometime!
but we did love our 2nd trip to deception pass SP & rosario head hike.
also i have friends who live in coupeville that we spent part of the afternoon/morning with…

I like your comment about the shit we must get through to arrive at our destination. On my recent London trip, I found myself questioning whether I ever wanted to go to Europe again. Yet I find myself, each day, thinking of someplace in England I’d like to visit. I guess that is what happens when you are bitten by that travel bug!
I’m still considering taking your class. I enjoyed Ticket to Venice so much that I can’t imagine an improvement on it! I do tend to stick to a very simple pamphlet stitch as I have such trouble visualizing things unless they are laid out for me step by step, in writing and on video. The mail art component of your Stitchbookery class intrigues me.
I may have to put Lummi Island on my bucket list…
Mary Ann Moss says
i have visualization issues too, which is why i often consult my own videos when bookbinding and using a particular stitch. crazy but true!

Have followed your blog after meeting Ingrid in Italy. Love hearing about your travels.
Would love to know how you find your places to rent when you travel.
Thanks

diana,
oh how good that you got to meet ingrid. she’s a keeper.
i mostly use either AIRBNB or VRBO to find places. both are .com. so many wonderful places it’s exciting just to go have a look and dream!
enjoy poking around on both sites. for the record i find airbnb a bit easier to navigate.

Thanks so much for sharing your Lummi journal. I had a chuckle over the window incident. Earlier this summer my sister and I rented a funky little former ranger cabin deep in Ashley National Forest in northern Utah. We also had an accidental lockout episode. We found an open window. Of course it was high up and over the kitchen sink. We got my sis up and into the window but she had to hang there and empty the sink before she could wiggle in. It was quite a sight from my angle. We had a good giggling fit. Coincidentally, our window incident involved a friendly chipmunk we named Chauncey. He kept trying to go in the house and when my sis shut the door to keep him out she didn’t realize the lock was set. Thank goodness for that open window.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!! roaring with laughter over here about the kitchen sink. my sister had to pull the chair over and take my stuff off of it in order to use it to help lower herself to the ground. while she was doing that i was laughing hysterically. so so so funny.
no chipmunk on our end. drat. chauncey sounds cute!

Your journal is a treasure. I love your genius at putting it together and enhancing it so well with your paintings, text and photos. Put them all together and it is a joy to behold!
