hello you crazy kids!
i wanted to share a bit of classroom thangs before the year comes to a close. the story above is a CHAIN story. each child writes only one sentence in about 20 seconds before passing it to the next when i ding the bell. the resulting stories are fabulous & hilarious! after we finish and read aloud, i have the student who wrote the first sentence edit the whole thing and rewrite in cursive.
below is a spelling homework poem. i thought this one was particularly clever. quite exhusting to write to be sure!
i caught a glimpse of the back of someone’s journal while i was walking around the room today:
a thousand thank-yous for the donors choose donations, both of my projects were funded!
i will have ongoing projects throughout the summer so that i’m ready to roll when the new year begins. i’m looking forward to taking advantage of as many match offers as possible. getting matched effectively cuts the money needed IN HALF! the zig watercolor brush markers in the photo above where from the amazon wishlist earlier this year. the kids LOVE them and have gotten lots and lots of use out of them, the sketchbooks, and watercolors, and so much more. can never thank you enough. ever.
the current project i have up is only matched (up to $50) for the next 6 days and the coupon code LIFTOFF must be used or it won’t take effect. this means if $50 is donated it is matched and the donation becomes $100. you enter the code at checkout in the promo/gift code box, then click “apply”. i’m nearly halfway funded on my 3rd project!
also do note that you can change the optional % that is donated to donors choose. i’m including a photo so you can see where to do this because it’s truly in the fine print. from the donors choose site you click on “includes optional 15% donation”, then you will have an option to change that to any amount you like, including 0% if you choose. for example if it’s left at 15% my project receives 85% of the donation. i appreciate that donors choose gives the option for donors to make this choice for themselves.
in online class news, i’m coming home every day from school and working on class. soon i’ll be home full-time and able to devote all of my time to getting the new REMAINS OF THE DAY 2017 class off the ground, not just nights and weekends. i’m a week away from the official announcement. hold tight!
hasta pronto!

lets write 2 chain poems when we are on our summer vacation. One in your travel book and one in mine. I saw a recipe today for strawberry cobbler. I think they will have good strawberries where we are going. Lets make some to eat for breakfast with our coffee as we sit outside wrapped in blankets.

Love the Bucket List – some of those places are on my Bucket List too, including a visit to Ms Moss’s House!
Waiting patiently for the new class! Lorraine

Both the story and poem were sweet. I’m excited for the new class Mary Ann. Seriously…can’t wait. But I will wait for you…you bet I will!!!!! The elementary school behind our house had their last day today. I can always tell when it’s getting close, the kids get louder and louder in the playground and occasionally I see teachers carrying bags and boxes to their cars. Cleaning out their desks and rooms. It’s kind of bitter sweet having the school so close. My daughter’s went there so I’m always taken back in time and sometimes get wistful about it but then I think ‘damn it’s nice to be an empty nester’ I love the quietness that falls on the neighborhood this time of year. Most of the kids disappear and the park is pretty quiet for the most part. The school bells still go off through out the summer. They are not reset so it rings in the morning when classes begin and then at 4:15 in the afternoon. If i’m outside I always know what time it is if I hear the school bell. I used to be able to spot my girls when they were out at recess. Sometimes I’d go to the end of our yard and watch from behind the lilac bushes. Sometimes they’d see me and wave. I know you’ll have an incredible summer and I am excited that you get to move into a real classroom in the fall. It’s sad though that any teacher has to accept whatever space will work but a teacher’s gotta do what they gotta do so I applaud you. Bravo and a standing ovation thrown in for good measure. 🙂

I love all of the creativity of your kids. They are so talented and smart! And isn’t that lovely that someone put your house amongst all of the wonderful world destinations? What a compliment!
The outlined pear is delicious! I only hope I can sew in a straight line, let alone do sewing dressage, with loopty loops!
I am hoping to donate some for your class later on this summer. Right now I am wedding poor and husband is in shock. Will have to give it a bit. It will help when we get the $1000 deposit for the venue back, and return about 5 dresses I ordered for mother of the bride that didn’t fit! Almost opted for nekkid MOTB. I am also going to sell the votive candle holders and a box of reindeer moss and some other things.
I am almost done with “My Brilliant Friend”. I think what is throwing me off is the huge cast of characters. I am having such a time keeping them all straight! I am character challenged, apparently.
