a blustery cool day.
we played kickball in the morning under a brilliant blue sky. little cotton puff cloud flotillas raced each other overhead.
sweaters blew. black hair was flying. julie wore her new pink sunglasses.
the air was brisk.
we watched 13 minutes of the sound of music at the end of the day in lieu of recess
maria made the kids pajamas out of the old drapes.
now evening is settling around moss cottage.
the heat is turned on high.
i’m painting another bookcase scene in my sketchbook.
i’m thinking about an old fashioned spring break roadtrip.
see you soon!

Ruby Dee used to live in my town, New Rochelle ,NY. I sometimes would see her out speed walking/jogging when she was in her 80s. Great poem<3

Love! Swoon as always Mary Ann. Your sketches are always a feast for the eyes. 🙂 While out for my morning blog and instagram wandering I came across a rather delightful artist from Austria. Sonaln. Her journal pages are quite scrumptious. Her instagram feed is here https://www.instagram.com/sonaln/ Thinking you might enjoy her pages.

Thank you for the picture of your brushes. I expected to see more fine brushes, but what I considered paint strokes were perhaps done with a special pen. Your talent continues to impress me
Mary Ann Moss says
hey thanks! no pens used. those particular brushes weren’t used for this piece. i did use some very thin brushes on some parts.
I’ll share all the brushes i used next time. i take these things for granted and forget that some people might find the exact brushes used to be of interest.

I love the light. I love the oranges and reds in the top pic. I am amazed at the sketchbooks, especially the one with the thick black book that looks REAL. I love all of the various stitching on the spines. Simply yummy. Andwhat is it about stacks of books that is so appealing? I love stacks of books.
Here there has been sorting of thousands of papers and images for collage and book making. Tea dying of various and sundry kinds of paper. Onion skin turned out sooo amazing. I thought it would just disintegrate, but it did not, and it is so crinkly and THIN. The best things in life are crinkled.
New water infuser bottle with strawberry and mint. Must get cholesterol down before cardiology appt. so I don’t get lectured as badly (I have heard this doctor is pretty tough on those who don’t try), and doing it by adjusting diet. Oatmeal, fruits and veggies, 21 grain bread, trail mix with lots of nuts and dried fruit, almond milk, and so on. Horrible nightmare last night. Shot in the head. Woke up saying “call the police”! I think it is from worrying about health things. Feeling my mortality. Trying not to stress, but my subconscious is doing it in my sleep. Stop that, subconscious! I will live to be ancient of days. I have always thought that sweet people die young, so I am trying to be crotchety like my grandmother, not sweet like my mother. Mom died at 62 and grandma at 83. I will let you know…
Weather today, snow, then sun, then snow, then sun. Snow melted. More of same tomorrow. February has a sense of humor, it appears.

your new eating habits sound delicious. i predict success. frozen bananas, flax seed, vanilla extract, nutmeg, almond milk in the blender make a yummy sweet smoothie. not as appealing in the COLD though…

Mary Ann Moss says
i’ll be wearing my orange leather bikini with crocheted coverup while i drive. and stopping for a beer at a saloon every night. (in my flannel bear pantsuit)

Spring break reading idea: reading a new series that includes beaches, Scottish islands and mysteries – Sea Detective by Mark Douglas-Home. Now reading the second book and I think you might like them!
Best to you
