our dear leonard cohen has left the building. this is my favorite song on his last album. click play and have a listen. so glad i saw him in concert a few years back…
and while you’re listening…cake and tea anyone?
i am basking in the glory of a 3-day weekend. being very leisurely. assembling piles of books to read. dipping my wet brush into the watercolors & gouache. capturing important thoughts on paper.
hope you’re tinkering away in your workshops and kitchens. assembling your telescopes to look at the moon, baking bread, climbing into your pajamas and sitting in front of a roaring fire.
i’ll just be here. thinking about our old friend leonard.

I am so saddened by Leonard Cohen’s death. I had just a few days before told my wife I would be doing whatever was necessary to see him live the next time he went on tour, that I didn’t think he’d tour more than once more. I regret never seeing him in concert. What an amazing gift to the world he was.

Kate McKinnon sang “Hallelujah” dressed as Hillary on SNL as a tribute to Cohen and Clinton. Very moving. Love your sketches, as always!

Lovely cake! We listened to Leonard most of the day, while doing stuff around the house. “Ring the bells that still can ring”

This poignant post with lovely artwork and cozy tea suggestions is just what I needed. My dog of 15 years went to heaven this week. You are balm for the soul: “…and then he got up and went on to his next adventure.” Thank you my dear.

Ahhhhh! I clicked on the song and listened to it while I perused this post and it was downright atmospheric! Kind of like a little snippet of time, immersed, albeit briefly, in your life ambience c/o Leonard. Thanks for the little reprieve. I haven’t been doing much today, except organizing some art supplies, and the usual chores. I woke up to cat barf all over a stack of art work, so there was that! But cleaning it up, I found two unfinished pieces that I can work on tomorrow.
Lots of ducks in the pond and several deer in the pasture today, hiding from hunters! They know I will protect them. Windy day. Couch surfing. Reading. Leftovers for dinner. Beef Barley soup. Instagram. Stuff. Loving your art!

I loved K.D. Lang’s rendition of Hallelujah, it’s on You Tube, check it out. The recording is live somewhere in Canada. It will raise the hairs on the back of your neck and your arms. Haunting.
I’m very much a tea lover and have Comfort & Joy for the holiday season, by Republic of Tea. Oh yum.

I liked that post from the cake to the tea – Paris, my all time favorite tea, and everything in between! A nice memorial to Leonard.

Good Saturday Morning MAM: )
I listened to L.C. for a couple of hours last night on U-Tube – WOW is all I can say and very coooooool : )
Love your pages they always inspire me to work in my art journal – thank you : )
I want to thank you also for being a “calming agent” after the turmoil of this week – I know ALL of your students (young and old) must feel this : )
Blessings, Sandra in AZ : )

Yes, thank you, I’ll have some cake. Any orange pekoe tea? No? Any kind you have, then. I have a fire going in the fireplace. I’m going to make a little art. Maybe take a photo or two. Nibble at the edges of my “to-read” pile.
And I’m going to walk. When I do, I’ll be chanting Leonard’s words:
“This morning I was dressed by the wind.
The sky said, close your eyes and run
this happy face into a sundrift.”
Mary Ann Moss says
i may have to pen that quote into my journal!

I know how you like book suggestions, so you might like “The Secret Chord” by Geraldine Brooks. It is the story of King David and it’s that story that haunts me when I listen to “Hallelujah”. I am a Jewish old kid and this story is so much of my early education, BUT, we never really learned some other “things” about David. The hardest part of the book is keeping track of who’s who — lots of wives and sons. There’s a list in the front of the book and I copied it and used it as a bookmark. Because of the time in history, this book isn’t considered a biography, but there is lots of good information.

I’ve been cooking and piling up dirty dishes and clean ones in the dishwasher. And we’ve been sitting in front of a roaring but lovely fireplace heater!

Loved LC. He was recently on CBS This Morning(Sunday am edition). I was glued to the set. Such a gentle man and a gentleman , too. Certainly left us everything he had. 🙂
