i came home from school and found this video waiting for me in my email. thanks jayne for sending!
now all i want to do is gaze at lottie cole’s dreamy portfolio of work and imagine that i am sitting in front of charleston with a giant sketchbook and my gouache palette, some sort of cold citrusy cocktail, a bowl of strawberries. i am there in the shade of some leafy tree, from which is pouring the most divine birdsong. nearby there is an easy-to-get-in-and-out-of hammock. and of course i am one brushstroke away from a heartbreaking work of staggering genius.
well anyway.
lottie cole has come to my attention and i wanted to share her with you.

That’s something that has eluded me for a long time, so thank you. I watched the video and sure enjoyed it. You’re very generous to all of us. I’m going to keep looking at her work. Thank you, Mary Ann.

I’ve always loved the cozy English cottage style with its eclectic collections of oddments. I can remember reading descriptions of cottage interiors in English novels from early reading days and wanting to visit or own one for myself. Loved the video! The British accent is so pleasing to the ear.

I am not surprised that you would love her, she is totally your style, but what surprises me is that someone remembers who were Vanessa bell Duncan grant, what about Carrington? I thought young people were not interested much in British art or even heard of Bloomsburry..

Swoon. Thanks so much. Time to do some interiors in gouache.

I am currently reading “Vanessa and her Sister” so it was with great pleasure to see the Bloomsbury interiors paintings; they are wonderfully done and so pleasing to study and enjoy.
Thank you for sharing.

Lottie has caught the hot summers of Charleston. I can feel the heat (and the humidity) . Of course all that makes the long, narrow gardens of the old part of Charleston a delight to see. Cool drinks definitely needed unless you are taking the moonlight tour (October).

I jumped in much too quickly. This is Charleston in England, home to Vanessa Bell and neighbor to her sister Virginia Wolff. I watched Lottie’s film and it was very interesting and instructive. Them I had to go do some more research on Ms. Bell et al.
