come in, put your feet up, have a cupcake!
i’m back from the desert. the art retreat is over and ordinary life is back in full swing. last week i landed at a very small school in the beautiful hills northwest of downtown. i’m in a k-3 special day class. i have 14 students – 13 boys and 1 girl. luckily, for me they are all 2nd and 3rd graders. i have a really wonderful full-time teacher’s aide. the other teachers are friendly and the principal is a pleasant woman. i feel fortunate to have landed in 2 excellent schools after both leaves of absence.
in other news, i started painting pie in the desert and that led to…coming home from school today and adding a few more cupcakes to this page. now i want to start a cupcake factory. it’s important to have goals. ya know?

Ha! That looks like a Tastycake snuck in there! My Nana only made cakes so I often got those Tastycakes in my lunch. Easier than licking the icing off the waxed paper of a slice of her superb cake.
I hope we get to hear more about your students. Does ‘special day class’ mean special needs? Whatever, you will be a gift to them and vice versa I’m sure. Teachers’ aides for the early grades is one perk of that stage. They do consume a lot of paper if I recall from my classroom days.
I don’t have sketches, I don’t have cupcakes but what I do have is lots of snow and it’s swirling around my upstairs windows like a classroom of toddlers doing tumbling.

Lovely cupcakes! I will have the pink one, upper right, if you are offering:). I feel for that lone girl. I was the only girl with 4 brothers. I got picked on a lot. I survived.

Okay, now we’re talking. I’m sticking with chocolate icing. You’ve got that Maira Kalman thing going on for sure. Yea – so glad you’re in a good school again! Blessed kids!

That poor one girl in your class!! What did she do to deserve that fate!

Those cupcakes are beautiful. Aww, indeed..one lone girl in your class. She will know before very long how lucky she is to have crossed paths with you. But then, so will those boys. Cant wait to hear about the kiddos!

Hi,
Thought I would start up my sketchbookery class again. I was reading the comments and I never knew there was a sketchbookery facebook page. Can I sign up for it? Thanks.
Barbara says
I’m happy too learn that you have another good assignment. You deserve only good ones from now on after the harrowing experiences that led to your resignation. Have fun – I know the kids will.

I will have mine with a cuppa in front of the fire. Ice pellets are falling here. Sooo good to have an assistant you can describe as wonderful. I hope that all works together to make this a fulfilling assignment

Whew; glad you landed what will hopefully continue to be a good work assignment! These leave of absence periods may have been one of your best ideas yet!

I take the chocolate one at the top. Looks delicious!
It’s snowing outside. Winter is finally here, after a looong extended autumn. Harvested the last carrots from the garden this weekend, that should say enough about winter so far!

awwww. What rotten luck to be the only girl in a class. I want to send her a cupcake and a hug…every day.
