i’m still walking. still collecting. still drawing. still splashing watercolor around. it’s saturday morning and despite evidence to the contrary in the news, life is still good. a can of darkness has been opened and is seeping around the edges of our consciousness. we are puzzled. what is next?
no one knows. but i will just be here. doing this. walking through the shadows and the bright patches of sunlight. noticing the beauty of the natural world. listening to the old ABBA cassette tape i found in my car last week. sorting through my old french stamps. writing, thinking, listening and being here. being here now.
see you soon!

Thank you for all of the beauty, Mary Ann. I saw the same dancing trees that cortney saw! I think your postage stamps are sooo delicious, and I really love your painting of the greenish little branch with berry looking things. What is that? What colors are those? Your journal is a feast.
What can we do about the darkness? Be a light…

Yep — the only thing we really can do is BE HERE NOW. This crazy world we live in is going to continue being crazy. No sense in our becoming crazy along with it. It might just be those of us attending to our daily lives RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW that are keeping the world from imploding even more than it is. Your drawing/painting is becoming more refined and more beautiful than ever. Happy Holidays my friend. xo

Also concerned about the can of darkness; also working on being in the here and now…….
Loving your drawing/paintings, and your stamps……. I need to get into my art supplies, and USE them……….

Love this post. I love your blog and follow it on bloglovin. I don’t usually comment, but this resonated especially “a can of darkness has been opened and is seeping around the edges of our consciousness.”
Thank you.

I’m so glad you continue to be here for us, Mary Ann: inspiring me to keep journaling, sketching, seeing beauty & tranquility when we need it the most. Plus you’re a hoot. Yeah.

Being in the moment is always the goal. The recent events happening all around us make that even more essential.

Being here now, even when chaos can be held at bay, is really the only option, isn’t it? Doing whatever is normal and ordinary for us, being sure that we add more of what brings us peace, sharing beauty and wonder as we find them. It is essential that we remain bound together by something greater than fear. Brush strokes on a page, dew on a leaf, healing prescriptions. You bathe in sunlight and we understand how it feels. xo

So well said, Mary Ann. Much to worry about; much to appreciate. But hearts are heavy now, aren’t they, to use a cliché.

This post was such a welcome moment. Yes we must be here now and I find nature to be one of the most healing things around. Your drawings and art are wonderful, especially in this post. Travel on MAM, travel on.

That’s one of the best things that has come out of all the dark events: we have to learn to “be here now.”

Hi Mary Ann,
I hope you’re finding solace in art these days while chaos of it all swirls around us. There are no good words.
But: that photo of the tree in the park? I see a jubilant, dancing tree (light toned bark) in the background. It makes me want to grab my kids and go for a nature walk.

Being here now. Looking at the world with eyes wide open. Throwing our creativity and our respect for life into the face of the howling darkness. Yes.

I was writing in my journal this morning, wrapping up the week, and looking for a quote to sum it up. Blank, got nothing. Then I looked at your blog, and there it was. Quote for the week. Writing, thinking, listening, and being here now. Perfect. You are an antidote to the world.
