i just realized that i’m leaving for guatemala in a week. thankfully i have the best cat/house sitters on the planet who are always available and ready to mobilize when the travel bug strikes. without them i wouldn’t feel so free to leave home so often. makes all the difference when you know your house/garden/cat posse will be looked after properly. i’m lucky to receive daily emails with photos of all the goings on here at moss cottage while i’m away.
but back to the business at hand…
i had the most fun drawing people in line at the different cafes we visited.
they don’t stand still for long.
man buns. yes. they’re real. i first spotted them in sweden. now i see them everywhere.
if you’re going to be in guatemala at the same time as me, i apologize in advance if you happen to stumble onto my life drawing set.
no really. i’m sorry.
the flower drawings were done at the mendocino botanical gardens. specifically the dahlia garden. there was a wedding getting ready to start so we made haste.
i painted these apples the other day. super fast in my cheap eco qua notebook. i’m thinking of taking 2 of them to antigua. 1 big, 1 small, plus a mini 3×5 moleskine.
after finishing the sweden travel journal, i’m not ready to take on another travel journal “project” so soon. it’s a lot of work to put so much concentrated effort into the pages. i just want to splash paint and make inky sketchy messes. i’ll still do my writing. but i’m planning to use these eco qua notebooks more of a hang-loose-mongoose sort of style. we’ll see which way the wind blows me…
p.s. blood moon tonight 7 pm ish PST

So fun! I love your sketches. Doesn’t take much to tell the stories.

FYI – There’s a restaurant in Torrance called Antigua. Named after the city because the chef is from there. She makes Guatemalan tamales and a variety of delicious tapas among other things.

Bwahahaha @ man buns! I thought you meant the other kind at first. Ahem…
Love the flowers and apples so much, and really love the houses/buildings too! Wonderful work, as usual:).

Love, love these journal pages. I especially like the long-eared owl wearing shorts standing in line in the 2nd people picture. Too cool!
