I am in love with your African violet sketch over that patterned paper and the thick black lettering!

Hi Ami,
Yes, that’s exactly what I did! Used a foam brush to lay down a thin layer of white gesso. I actually prepped that page about 3 years ago. ha ha ha!!! But it wasn’t until I returned to that visual journal and started using it for watercolor & gouache that I began to go back and use all the white pages. so glad I used a combination of watercolor paper & mixed paper at the time I made it.

I’m starting to see all of your different styles over the years are coming together in an amazing new statement. I have been looking for several years for a more truly mixed media approach to traditional watercolor, and I think you’re on the path of it. I’m loving this new direction and looking forward to where it leads.
Digging out from the rubble slowly here, but starting to cook up plans for the future. Lovely plans – art, art, art! Love to you, my friend MAM.

I love the African Violet painting, the way the watercolor floats over the mixed paper. Did you paint a thin layer of gesso first? Very inspiring!
