while you're putting your bird in the oven i'll just be here staring off into the wild blue yonder. one week's worth of silence & sketching. reading & resting. falling to sleep with the waves. hope you're making happy preparations of your own. if they involve travel to distant ports, remote cabins, sleigh rides, or pie you know i'll need to know.

I envy you! Yes, it is like heaven, isn’t it, when all you want is peace and quiet with only sounds of the waves accompanying you each brand new day. I live near the sea, and sounds of the waves and wind really calms me down when I need “alone time”. Yes, solitary is priceless–especially when you have the nice view to yourself. Have a great time!! …shoofly…in the sky by and by and have you heard of a new pie-favored whiskey called “Piehole?” Isn’t that a stitch?

We have deputations of extroverted relatives (not mine) arriving and staying on/off for next two weeks! Egads I will desperately need either the keys to your beach hideout, or better drugs. Or a trip to the funny farm. That will probably happen one way or the other. I’d say you have things entirely worked out, and should sell package tours for introverts. In which we all have separate houses and occasionally send up smoke signals to indicate, ‘finished a particularly entertaining sketch’ or something. The other introverts, in our own beach hideouts, will wave a paintbrush in salute, then have a nap. T-shirts for excursion will say: Introverts Unite, separately, and in our own homes.

I’ll be here in knee replacement rehab doing lots of PT and knee icing in between. It’s where I need to be and for most of each day where I want to be. I’m fed and taken care of without having to make almost any mental decisions. Really, for most any woman, that is a good bit to be thankful for! SoCAL in July for me. 🙂
I love the color of that drippy salmon!

I’ll be thinking about you and doing a low level fly over with my gigantic wings strapped on. Truth be told I’d much rather be tucked away some place quiet for a few hours than my required presence at the in-laws for the day. Have an awesome, delightful and relaxing time. I know you will. Happy Turkey Day. PS What I am most thankful for is your sweet presence in the’blog-hood’ Every day I stroll by, wave and enjoy every colorful tidbit you scatter hither and yon. You ROCK!!!!!

O! That Neon Coral. Beyond the beyond. I looked at the colours you named, but I reckon you may have woven such bright loveliness from the joyous anticipation of sitting + purring in that Beauty-full place. I can hear the waves,, too. x x x

Omg. I yearn. I love when you share your art & take us to these places, otherwise I’d never get there. A big thank you Mary Ann. Enjoy this respite.

Beautiful color combinations above…I would a house with those colors all over the place!! Soo dern pretty…have a restful and full of peace of heart Thanksgiving!!

The spot you will be in looks mahvelous. I will be serving helping to serve plate that will be taken to meals on wheels recipients. Our church takes on this wonderful assignment each year because Meals on Wheels does not deliver on Thanksgiving or Christmas. Then home to turkey and dressing and relaxing. Enjoy your wonderful trip.

Oh, this is wonderful, just a glorious idea for the holiday week you so deservedly have coming to you! We will be with our family, which is a big treat in itself: laugh-a-lot, talk-a-lot, eat-a-lot! But in mid-December my husband and I are going on a retreat for Friday-Sunday at a retreat center called San Damiano. They just happen to be having a silent retreat group there while we are there, so it will be kinda quiet and it sounds so good to us. They have a chapel and courtyard garden and we plan to paint a bit while there. You set the example, and we are following! I hope this place is the best ever-the light looks wonderful. Give yourself a hug!

Your post made me chuckle – I had just been bemoaning the loss of my lovely solitary long weekend. My family had the audacity to invite me to a Thanksgiving shindig! My fault. I should have actually planned a getaway like yours. Too late to make something up! There’s always Christmas.
On another note: One of the biggest gifts I’ve received from you, dear Mary Ann,is coming to terms with how much I love being alone! I always thought there was something wrong with me. Thank you.
I won’t say have a fabulous time, cuz you always do!
Diana says
Looks and sounds heavenly, Mary Ann. Can’t wait to see your photos and sketches from that amazing place!
Cortney says
I’ve just narrowly escaped the typical holiday rigmarole this year, and while my view won’t be as stellar as yours, it will include watercolors and gold gouache and sketches of Ugly Christmas Sweaters. And likely, pie.
Peggy Mcdevitt says
Wow and wow, you so deserve this treat. I feel myself getting green with envy. Have yourself a fun time.
Joan says
Loverly! I can’t think of anywhere I’d rather be than at the coast of So. Cal. You are bringing some Pumpkin Pie with you, right?
Is there a green on your palette named Envy? That’s what color I am.
Scrapncathy says
What a beautiful spot! Happy Thanksgiving to you too! Hope you get to eat lots of good pie,
Kris says
Enjoy your little ‘by the water’ break. Oh my, the colors you used in your flowers above are scrumptious. What type paints are they again and what specific colors? I just need to play with them. So yummy! Happy Thanksgiving. I can’t wait for pie time myself!
Vicki says
What a gorgeous spot!
First, I’d snooze. Then sketch and paint.
I hope you have a lovely week of Thanksgiving.
I count your generosity in all these endeavors one of the things I’m thankful for!
barbara says
Beautiful view, sounds like a wonderful way to spend Thanksgiving. If I were there, I wouldn’t even think of pie. Well, maybe pie, just not all that other fol-de-rol that goes along with it. Enjoy every little minute of!
Ilse Aranti says
Sounds like a week of my kind. Enjoy!!!
Wendy Frances Milone says
I will probably go to a diner and have a turkey dinner. It doesn’t have to be on Thanksgiving. I need to have at least one slice of Pumpkin pie to make the dinner complete. Otherwise, I will be busy working on Pure Experimental. I decided creating and completing at least one of the courses, and being pleased with my work, will be my goal. If I get to finish the other class it will be a true bonus. Now that I am getting a feel for working with the spray paints I am getting more done. I’ve certainly enjoyed the class. You are a very good teacher. Happy Thanksgiving.
Julie says
So thankful for this happy spot on the web. Have a great time. We’ll be basking in the quietness of home–our safe haven from the rest of the world.
Linda Watson says
Sounds wonderful. I’ll be having silence, sketching and weaving for a week as husband is heading off on business. I envy you your beachside abode.
