like me, my friend & neighbor susan lives in a tiny cottage. hers is approximately 500 sq. feet.
she moved into the neighborhood about a decade ago. now she rents out her larger home and lives in one of the 2 cottages on her property.
like moss cottage, it’s just the right size for one human and a few furry animals.
she has a private patio, an enormous rambling garden, and stellar views of the hills.
the charger for my big camera went missing about a month ago, so lately i’ve been using my tiny pocket fuji. it doesn’t respond well to bright daylight conditions. but we’ll soldier on.
most of the garden is succulents.
the best tiny houses have no wasted space. her computer station is cleverly wedged into this small hallway.
in contrast her bedroom is spacious and bright.
this is henry pismo chillaxing on the bed. there’s also jimmy pismo, but he was not available for a photo.
however, lulu was…
this oil painting is by local artist babara ciolino. captivating in its simplicity!
it’s been a dozen years since moss cottage had an interior paint job. i’ll probably stick to white, but this powder blue is a tempting choice.
when i got my whole-house fan last week, i also had ductless air installed. years ago it was suggested to me as a way to cool & heat more quietly & efficiently. it also freed up 2 windows that previously held cumbersome view/light blocking window units. ductless mini-splits (as they’re known) aren’t as common here as in europe, but they’re becoming more-so. i won’t know till winter sets in, but i probably won’t need space heaters anymore. huzzah!
as usual susan leads the way, and i tag along behind, benefitting from her clever house tips & tricks.
i’ve written about susan before here on DFLA. i should probably assign her a category of her own!

what an awesome house…..was that machine embroidery from Lisa Congden? the artist initials looked like an A W, maybe? her ceiling lights in photo 3,11, & 13 are precious….and the stunning tile work for the shower is great. our hotel in FLorence had one of the AC units and it worked mighty fine in the early month of May. Thanks for the sunny pictures on a very rainy day in Richmond, Virginia (we need days of soaking rain, but one is a good start). Holly

I bet I enjoyed this tour more than anyone else! And wasn’t it sweet of the little blue patio chair to wear a necklace for the occasion?

Thank you…this felt like a 15 minute vacation for me! Both your and Susan’s little cottages are so wonderfully lightfilled and so very livable looking. And that kitty portrait is magnificent. You made my day!

Many thanks to both you and Susan for providing us with this peek into her lovely home. I am taken with the bird paintings and that sewn sketch of the two ladies with the dogs – LOVE!!! It looks like a totally charming place to visit!!

I have been a fan of Susan’s opulent and unique decorating style since she owned the big house next to my mother’s over on Terrace 49. I am also the proud owner of some patio furniture and flowerpots and trays painted by her – wonderful works of art. Here I see she has done it again – the colors, the pieces, the details, all have that inimitable and uniquely L.A., Susan touch. Go Susan! And, many thanks for posting.

I adored the home tour of Susan’s delight little corner of the world and super cool that she went and allowed all of us to have a peeky peek. I am a push over for home dec and love seeing how others ‘nest’, how they decorate, what colors they are drawn too and seeing their favorite things tucked here and there. It’s magical and your tour has that one special ingredient that makes me feel like I’ve just been given a personal tour and allowed to relax in one of her corners and that ingredient is heaping helping of heart!!!! Such an adorable pup too. What is not to love? xox
