a bit of collage over a bunch of test marks & other nonsense. then a little ink drawing over the top using my extremely erratic aquash waterbrush filled with water soluble ink. everytime i use it a giant puddle of ink leaks out.
in other news i've been reassigned to the chinatown school i left in june. was just notified yesterday. i'll be there until late september. don't know the grade level yet, but think it's 5th for a teacher out on maternity leave. i was due to report in to my default location for the year – a school in koreatown. whenever i don't have an assignment or it's a pupil-free day i report in to the default location. never had to do that last year, but if i had it was a middle school with a bad reputation. i lucked out with this new default. whew…
time to go iron my school "uniforms" for the week.
could one of you please go to the beach for me tomorrow? and bob around in the salty water. then lay on a big blanket to dry off in the warm sun. later have a fish taco and a coconut popsicle. towards sunset maybe an ice cold beer. don't forget my sketchbook!
happy sunday from moss cottage. where all the women are strong, all the cats are good-lookin', and all the ideas are above average. xo

I adore the sketch of the chair with side table. Makes me want to sit and sip on something exotic. Sorry – no water near here so can’t help in that department. Glad you are satisfied with your new school. Summer has gone so quickly. You do make me laugh MAM, every time I read your fairly new ‘sign off line’. Good one! xoDonna

Wishing you the best of days in the classroom, sounds like it’s a good fit and really glad you don’t have to go to the other location. I like knowing you are safe and snug as a bug in a school that you will enjoy. I’ll be thinking about you and sending ‘summer vibes’ through the air ways as best I can. I promise to drink a cocktail in your honor later this evening. Your sketchbook pages are awesome as always. Thinking of you sweet woman of pen, paint and ink. 🙂

I adore your sketchbook page with the word “splendid” at the top. It is indeed splendid! Lucky 5th graders to have you if only for a short time.

Wishing you all the best for today – I think they appreciated you in your last teaching assignment and want you back.

I will, I will!

I am SO glad to hear you get to go back to the school you were at last year. When you are a sub, do you have a choice of going to a school that isn’t in a safe place or not? Just curious.
Sounds like the last day of the summer break was nice a laid back. Too bad you have to iron though…my most detested job on the domestic scene. I have a friend who absolutely loves it! I think she’s slipped a cog.
Keep up the good journal work…it’s all good.

BTW, love your sketches to pieces!!

I wish I could say I could go to the beach for you but I have to go to WORK! I’ll dream of that for you though! Teaching art sounds pretty good to me though! Best wishes on your first day!

Congratulations on both the assignment and the default! xoxo

So glad to hear your default school location worked out so well.
It is like coming home, to be in a good location.
The kiddos will be happy to see ya too. ;o)

Congrats on the position! It sounded like you had a great time there last year. We start next week too. It gets harder and harder to go back after a break. I wish playing around in the journal (and taking your classes) could be my job. No, seriously!

Lucky Fifth Graders to get to start the year with you! I’m happy to you getting to go back to the school of high achievers-they’re going to love you.
Hope they all have discovered deodorant before school starts. Fifth graders can get stinky as you’ll soon find out…

So happy for your new default school location. Just wanted to let you know how much of an inspiration you are for me, these past 2 years or so since I started taking your classes and following your blog. Keep up the good work!

I’ve been sketching today, too. Your patio sketch is very cool. So glad to hear you are getting a class you like. Hope your shoulder/rotator cuff isn’t giving you too much trouble. Boo says hello. 🙂
