away i went to the park yesterday and today. the roses were lush. petals raining down as i walked under the arbor. i sketched a lot of roses standing up. using whatever pen i had in my bag which happened to be an old uniball rollerball. nice and smooth, but not waterproof. no matter. i want to make some gouache and watercolor studies in my big book.
stood across from the group doing tai chi and did my best to capture them in motion.
my gouache experiment is complete. crumbly paint in the palatte is what i’m trying to avoid. there was still some cracking, but no loose bits rumbling around like in my old palette. i enjoyed mixing up some of my own favorite shades. i haven’t actually painted anything yet, but when i made the color swatches there was no sheen. i like the matte finish of gouache. a quick spray of water into the palette and the paint is creamy.
i added a pocket to the last page in my new illustrated journal (the big book). a good place to store reference material!
hope you’re drawing, painting, playing, and living up a storm. keep me posted. i like to know what kind of creative havoc you’re wreaking in your neck of the woods!

I’m loving the Tai Chi sketches!
Is that palette from Jackson’s as well? I really like the jumbo palette. I must consider it.

Roses already in CA and we’re still having frost at night. MD is too darn cold this year. My dh does Tai Chi and amazingly loves it – for a man with two left feet.

I love your Tai Chi people~ I thought they were dancing and in a way Tai Chi is dancing in slow slow motion, I guess. Very ambitious and totally worth it!!
Those rambling roses are to die for ~ Oh my gosh!!
Have a totally rockin’ weekend.
