i’ve also made 3 more blurb photo books that i cannot wait to get in the mail. this time i went online and hunted down some coupon codes so i saved 15-20% on each book. with premium paper and so many pages they aren’t cheap, but the discount helped. 2 of them have around 200 pages! nice and hefty just the way i like ’em. also tried some new paper and a new kind of cover. i will share each one as they arrive. so excited!
all of them are 7×7. small, square, and they don’t take up much space in the bookcase. also, perfect for holding in your hands and turning the pages. Spoleto & Amsterdam are photo only. for the Venice book but i included all of the blog posts i wrote during my time there this past winter.
it occured to me that this is an excellent way to keep a travel journal if you don’t carry one because you don’t have time, or it’s just not your thing. the idea being to carry a notebook around to write about your days. when you get home you could incorporate all of your photos along with PHOTOS of some of the written pages or they could be transcribed. imagine inky writing on top of some sort of divine unlined paper that would later be scanned. i would photograph parts of it at cool angles and make it part of the overall book. for my TTV book i just cut and pasted directly from blog posts. they were easy to incorporate. even though this book is titled TTV, it’s a private book i made for myself. see the photo on the back? the fellow on the far left in the black coat is virgilio lilli – a wonderful artist & journalist/writer. i stayed in his former studio in venice. of course i didn’t know that at the time. i discovered it on christmas eve when i found an unlocked closet full of ephermera and a few wrapped paintings in the apartment. oh what a fun mystery that was to encounter. you never know what you’ll uncover or stumple upon when you travel!
my umbria blurb has a photo of sol lewitt on the back because we stayed in his house in umbria (also completely unknowingly until our discovery while we were there!). i’ve told this story before. i tend to repeat myself when i get excited.
okay friends, i’m heading up north for a couple of days to visit dear joyce and sharron with 2 r’s. see you when i get home. happy sunday! xo

That blurb book idea with photos of journaling is brilliant!

This new look to the blog has me all confused (very easy to do at my advanced age.) Will you still post your daily or updates entries here or elsewhere? I love to read about the day to day and all the comments.

I’ve been doing travel books this way for a year now (even going back and doing some older trips (good way to get those photos out there so you actually look at them rather than if they’re stored on the computer of a CD)- but I never thought of taking photos of my travel journal, travel books and those little ephemeras like tickets, etc. What a super idea. Thanks for sharing it.

toodle looooo Mary Ann, have fun. You are tempting me with all those ‘blurbs’ you’re making. Love the new additions to your blog, more fun for us to dive into on a ‘daily’ basis.
