i was approached by somerset life about writing an article and submitting photos for their blogs with a view section for their oct/nov/dec issue. it was last minute, but i readily agreed, why not?! i thought, i’d share it with you here in case you don’t have access. if you’re interested, you can click on the article pages to make bigger so you can read.
Brenda Starr!!!! Oh, you are a woman after my own heart, for sure. I love this article. Thanks for sharing.
Sorry the gouache trick didn’t work out for you. You can also try using ox gall if you don’t like the way gum arabic works. (I forgot to mention that, again, sorry.)
Congratulations! What a delightful article.
About time
So. Stinkin’ Cool!!! Big, big smile here. 😀
Brenda Starr! I love that! I’ve always been a bit of Nancy Drew myself…
And? Thank you for the sharing and the inspiration you give.
jan – i have big roomy dark pockets though! my longtime blog companions get the good pockets up front. ha ha ha ha!!!!!!
What a delightful article! But while it’s very generous of you to tuck us into your pocket, it is getting just a wee bit crowded in here and now bound to be more so …. not to mention all those little stars that light the way will now become a blinding glare with all your new followers!
FANTASTIC! Thank you for sharing, Mary Ann!
Congratulations Mary Ann. Is this your new career?
Our MAM in the mag. High five! And such kind words about your blog fans. What in the heck would we do without you? You’ve spoiled us, you know.
SO COOL! I’m amazed at how you push your boundaries always! LOVE it amd bravo MAM!
YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!
Congratulations..can’t wait to pick up a copy!
You are my arty hero 🙂
Thank you for sharing this – what a treat!!
Beautifully written, lovely, evocative photos! But, of course, all of us pocket friends know how wonderful you are!
Hurray!! Congratulations! I never pre-order Stampington mags because I love going to the bookstores to go on a treasure hunt, since they are displayed in all different places. For some reason, I pre-ordered this one! Yay, Kismet!
Congats again, coolest publications ever! Rock On!
Sheila
This is absolutley wonderful. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for posting this entire article. It is impossible to find any Somerset publications here on the Big Island of Hawaii. We do not have any real book stores anymore, ever since Borders closed their two shops. The grocery store and craft store sadly do not carry any Somerset publications. Great article and I enjoyed being able to read it. Mahalo!
Aloha, Kate
Your writing has the vibrancy of your painting; you have the heart of a poet. Bravo!
Lucky somerset life to have found you! xoxo
I started reading this post and wondered what famous writer you were quoting, and then I find out it is you! Not only are your photos and art first rate, but your writing is exquisite. Why wait for a stuffy old publisher, go digital and do it yourself. Or, start a Kickstarter….I bet you can make it happen…we are pulling for you:)
Nice. Very.
Congrats, I would buy your book sight unseen you should be proud of yourself.
a great article immediately before you travel yet again on another artistic adventure in Amsterdam (lots of a’s)
VROLIJKE REIZEN!!
Holly
whoooooohoooooooo!!!!!! I’m spinning circles and jumping up and down for you. Oh you know I’ll be snapping up a copy of this when it comes out. Somerset does such an awesome job with their publications. Good things happen when you grace the pages of their magazines. Gets the word out about the truly wonderful goings on over at Moss Cottage. I am utterly delighted for you Mary Ann.
I started reading and got lost in the Amalfi coast! Had to snap out of it to find out it was your article for the magazine. Love how you write. Good work!.. All in red pencil and a couple of quirky stars at the top of the page as well.
Oh how I love being a little star that lights the way as you ferry us back and forth across the world! You make this world seem so intimate and poetic, this is a lovely gift…many thanks. After this exquisite article your pockets will be filled to capacity with new stars! Save my spot!
Wow, congrats! Great article, great photos. You rock (as always)!
maria and julie i say this not to boast but i have been approached about a book – twice in the last 6 years by 2 different craft publishers. i am not interested in doing a how-to art/craft book. believe it or not the money is surprisingly little and it is a lot of work and time. i know a few people who have gone this route. i applaud anyone who takes on the challenge, but it is just not my gig.
HOWEVER…there are some publishers who are more in keeping with the kinds of books that interest me. for them i could get very excited! and for you too of course maria!!! i am sure your book offer will be right up my alley. thanks for your well wishes i always appreciate xo
Congratulations! And, of course, thank you. Thank you for your sharing, your beautiful writing, your photos, your inspiration. And, most of all, your joy in living.
congratulations Mary Ann! absolutely beautiful! and yes i agree – you should have a whole book published!
Oooh, Reader Jane called you egalitarian. Wish I’d pulled that word out of my hat. Thanks for sharing your yummy article. Of course, I can’t wait to pick up my very own copy. At this moment I wish I were a book agent, publisher…something like that so I could offer you a book contract. Just like that, snap.
YAY! So beautiful. Well done. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Congratulations on this publication! It is beautifully written and the photos are exquisite.
Will be picking up a copy for sure! Love the digital you-in print, oh so delightful! Thanks for sharing! The page ‘losing the world’ really speaks to me! It really is the best way to find ourselves! The world just bogs us down & covers our true selves with so many layers of garbage. So slowly I didn’t even know it was happening. Taking the time to emerge from all of it is so freeing!
Awesome! 😀
Wow…how exciting for you! As one of your avid followers and students, I can attest to the greatness you make out of what some might consider the mundane on your travels. I will follow you to Paris and Venice and Istanbul and Amsterdam, as well as to the grocery store or walk-abouts around your little hillside. It is your thirst for detail and sassy demeanor that make me a reader for life. Viva la Dispatch.
Congrats! Nice article! And so glad you could share it with us here!
Are you sure you want to go back to teaching school?
Ahhhh….Stampington Publications are my dream publications to write for. Someday I might but for now, I’m happy reading what you write. Lovely!
Well done Mary Ann. I love Somerset magazines so this one will be a special one for sure.
How exciting, congratulations! I’ll definitely have to pick up a copy!
Well done Mary Ann. Happy for you! What an honor to get that many pages in a magazine. Congrats.
p.s. you mailbox is now going to be STUFFED with all of your new readers as a result of this article. more new friends….i hope you have a big pocket!
I am so proud of you, and so happy that I have shared many of your adventures with you, if only vicariously.
congratulations on being published!
Thank you Mary Ann for tucking me away in your pocket and keeping me close.
I like that very much.
Good for you. The article is an interesting read and your photos are perfect. All us gentle readers love your journeys. Congrats on the publication.
How beautifully and evocatively written! I also appreciate your egalitarian sharing of the entire article with us also.
Have I mentioned that we are visiting Italy’s Cinque Terra next year? I have many sketching plans!
