when my sabbatical is over i'm going to remember these little art retreats i took. and how happy-making they were. this time pam & i headed to the desert. there are some real bargains to be found on rentals off season. which is why we braved the desert in summer. but seriously, the air is like warm silk. and the water in the pool doesn't need to be heated. sundown was our pool time. floating in a warm cocoon of salt water watching the stars blinking on in the black sky. warm night air is so rare in LA.
there was lots of yacking, sketching, painting, cackling, splashing, drinking icy cold beverages, staying up till 1 am, going out to breakfast, gut-busting laughter – last night i thought my eyes were going to pop out i was laughing so hard. but somehow they didn't!
if you're interested in knowing more about the house we rented you can let me know in the comments and i'll post the info there. the owners kai & marc are friendly & very welcoming.
tomorrow i'll post more photos from some of our jaunts around palm springs and of course some shots from the sketchbooks & journals. pam is also posting pics over on her blog.
it's friday! i hope you're doing something peachy in your part of the world. i do i do i do!

The sky! The pool! The ART! I am counting the days until the winter art retreat…….

I think if I lived in CA I’d be interested in that house. A private pool sounds totally decadent. However, that bundle of Copics is certainly decadent living!

Oh it was a pure delight sailing over head and catching just a tiny bit of the grand time you were having, in case you were wondering I was that falling star in the night sky and I blinked at both of you before I landed in the desert brush. My wings survived and I headed for home. Seriously tho, I am happy as a clam for you, gathering up all these very special moments, tromping over land and sea and living in a way the celebrates who you are, doing the what you love to do. It is a rare thing and you do it so very well. Enjoy every second of your weekend and I am looking forward to more peeks. Huggers

You have such talent for living life fully, capturing it visually, and sharing it with others. Thank you, once again, for sharing your trip with us.

Great photos of a beautiful place, but your book basket is precariously close to the pool! I had to look back to make sure it hadn’t tipped over!

I always love your photos. Do you do anything special to get them so beautiful? I aim to get my trip photos to look like yours but they don’t. Maybe I need a new lens. (Or a new eye!)
And also, it’s your fault–I just went and bought my first SIX copic markers. What colours do I really need to have? I bought red, black, blue, green, yellow, and a fleshy coloured one.
So thanks!

As I like to say, you are such a lucky pup! But part of your “luck” comes from the fact that you are mindful of the fact that time is fleeting. Postponing doing the things that you love and that make you happy is foolish. Waiting for all the stars to line up to do what matters is a risky strategy. Your realization that your sabbatical will be ending soon and life will have to go back to the routine has propelled you to seize the moment and make the most of your remaining time away from your job.
If we learn nothing else in life, it’s that we really should seize the day. You may or may not realize it, but doing what you do and then blogging about and showing us the wonderful pictures from your adventures gives so many of us just the nudge we need to take advantage of our opportunities to grab life by the horns and hang on for the ride! Thanks, Mary Ann.
