i got a call early this morning to sub in a kindergarten class.
i thought about it long and hard.
and after 4 seconds i pressed the NO button on my phone.
because it’s friday. and i had an english muffin to slather with meyer lemon marmalade.
and cups of coffee to slurp. and lots of things to do at the kitchen table.
none of which involved any rambunctious ankle biters.
and also my sister and i have rented a house in a foreign country.
so there’s that to think about…
hope you’re thinking about many things that please & delight you today.

Very impressed by your dedication to the sabbatical. As Austen says, “never underestimate the power of refusal.” I say no to more work all the time, but I can always use another role model where that’s concerned 😉

Your re-organised About Me page is wonderful. If I didn’t already, I’d feel I knew you!

What a lovely luxury for you – to be able to push that “No” button. You go girl!!!

Saying “no” to Kinders?! Been doing that for years for as often as I can. They shipped off the 6th graders to middle school and gave us all day Kinder in their place. They’re cute but I don’t want to wrangle them. Good move!
When’s the next adventure? Mine might be late in April to LaLa Land. I could drive through the desert with a car full of agaves for you!

I actually held my breath until you pushed the NO button. What a fright! Yay for you! Loving all the yellow and my taste buds are craving the delicious looking marmalade. So happy for the link to your sister’s blog, I was racking my brain to remember what her blog is called. I needed the easy user friendly link. Will so enjoy following your next adventure.

The ankle biters loss is your gain. An English muffin with your homemade Meyer Lemon marmalade and making a huge art mess is a much better choice—at least for your mental health!
Where in the world will we find the MA/Carol duo trotting off to next??!? I can hardly wait to find out! When are you going? How long will you be gone? Oh goodie….another MAM travel journal!!! I am off to Africa again in the autumn, this time to SA, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana to view the animals and stalk the wild and wooly Zambezi River and Victoria Falls. I am working on my Africa travel journal right now and gathering goodies with which to stuff it. It’s (mostly) your fault, you know, putting all these journal ideas into my brain. (Thank you so much!)

oh boy another foreign adventure!

YES!!! To Saying NO!!!!!! A thousand times over. I spent the day finger painting with my niece’s 3 year old twins, and wiping painty hands, then lunch, then more finger painting which lead to arm painting to painting with elbows…what a site it was at my kitchen table. Younger DD stayed home from school to lend a helping hand as 2 3 year olds have about as much energy as that meteor had streaking over Russia, I could of swore I felt the earth shudder a time or two during moments of shrieking, happy squeals. House is quiet now and again my refuge…in short, days upon days having been spent time with those craft monkey; again I say YES to saying no. Enjoy every second of the weekend that doesn’t really have an end anymore and please do leave clues as to that house in a foreign country….pretty please

Good for you…for pressing the no button, for enjoying the marmalade, for drinking cups of coffee, for renting a house, for art on the table.

I am so proud of you. You haven’t been gone NEARLY long enough to think about subbing. I know. Been there, done that. You keep working on taking care of Mary Ann. She needs some TLC after the years of giving, giving, giving.
Kathy says
” no ” is a useful word to practice – you go girl!!!

A whole 4 seconds? Sounds like a long time to me!! 😀
Janet Ghio says
Lovely answer you gave. There is a real art to learning to say no and feel no guilt!! Can’t wait to see where you are going next.

Subbing. Take everything that you hated about trying to control a class, and multiply it a few thousand times. Think guerrilla warfare. Think sniper attacks. Think “the most dangerous game” by Richard Connell; if you haven’t read it, do so. Then, have another slice of marmaladed muffins. Ahhhhh….
Peggy McDevitt says
Good for you, isn’t it nice to have a choice. Where are we going.
Sister! says
Hey! I thought we weren’t going to spill the beans about our upcoming trip yet. I should have known you wouldn’t be able to keep from telling. Well I guess since you found the place you should get to announce. And if I ever want to announce I’ll have to find a place. Hmmm guess I’ll just retract this comment.
Kim says
that was a good decision… once you say yes they keep coming back for more. slippery slope you want to avoid. where to next? oh and happy galentine’s day to one of my favorite gals 🙂
bonitarose says
way to go…. saying NO to ppl and things, is something we all need to do more of. and start saying YES to ourselves. here here.. xo
Bravo!
Judi says
Good for you!! NO is a most powerful word. Of course, YES is also, but it must be used correctly. As we say here, “Ya done good.”
Trish Slussar says
WOOOOHOOO!!!! Where are we going now?!?! 🙂
I thought of you yesterday. Wondered if you missed having Valentine’s Day with the little ankle biters.
Diana Giffin says
Your blissful days are so soothing to read about, Maryann. Can’t wait to see where you and Carol will be traveling to next!
