You’ll thank me once we get to the top. Don’t worry we’ll go slow. The view is, well…awesome.
We’re in Barrio Guadalupe today. Scrambling up to the top of a steep hill to see all of the royal city of San Cristobal de Las Casas spread across the hills below. I just know you’re going to gasp when you turn around and look out across the valley.
It’s okay we can stay for as long as you want. It’s a cool day, but you won’t need a jacket. The air feels good on your skin flushed from the climb.
Someday maybe you’ll want to return. Look! I’ve already found a posada for you. Nestled in the crook of the hillside.
You’ll be just down the hill from the church. Out of the fray.
Let’s take our journals inside, sit at a pew, and write for a long time.
We won’t be completely alone. A stray little boy might wander over to gaze at the nacimiento. It’s so big and bright.
This is Templo de Guadalupe, the most special and beloved patron saint of this barrio. But wait, we aren’t finished. There’s more to see!

Mary Ann, I just love to holiday with you. What a lovely place. Let’s stay longer.

Violet cadburry bunny -I dont doubt there is drug cartel action here, but as with many hyped hysterical news events the danger posed in Chiapas is quite low. But then Im no expert…I did read/hear that though. The northern Mexican states may pose more risk. I feel sure that coming to San cristobal de las casas is safer than going for a walk in most larger American cities at night. If Americans appetite for drugs was less there wouldnt be these problems to begin with. Its all supply and demand.
MEXICO is really suffering loss of tourism dollars because of unbridled fear of the cartels.

A view to climb for! So peaceful looking. Just curious, any crime there, like the cartel drug thugs? I have been waiting for some kitty cat pictures, are there any felines? Hope your Christmas was cozy and that Santa was very, very good to you.

you actually climbed those steep stairs? Oye! My knees would be in serious trouble. The pics are beautiful, of course. What seems to be the main source of commerce in this lovely place? Very interesting part of the world.

ha ha … I thought you were going up the big hill on a chairlift until you mentioned ‘the climb’. How silly of me … absolutely beautiful. That church is so famous. Can’t get near it when they celebrate Our Lady’s birthday … I hear anyway. never been. Thanks for the ‘easy’ climb. Donna

Looks like a wonderful place to spend Christmas. The view with all those dots of color must be a singular sight to behold. And yes, orange is love.
