I inherited 3 new epiphyllums last summer. A friend's mother died and I was gifted with 3 of her lovely specimens. Plastic knives carefully stuck in each old plant held clues to its variety. Black scratchy writing declared this one to be King Midas. I looked it up online. Yep. King Midas. Golden orange bloom 5-7 inches across.
A grand shimmering flower. She stayed open for nearly 4 days. Just today she began to draw her petals in around herself…
and close.
More should open in the next few days. There is something very right about a world where such a flower exists.
Of course it's the weekend now. And there's something very right about that also. I'm going outside to set up my journal table so it's all ready in the morning. Happy Friday!

Just a note to say that I read your blog regularly. It always inspires me. I wrote to you once about a poem you posted. I also teach -7th grade – and love to fool around with collage art (not very good but I sure love it!)
Your blog always makes me smile in the early hours before I face 27 13 year olds for 61/2 hours – you remind me to find the goodness and art in life.
Thank you for that…
I always wonder if people that write uplifting blogs realize what a gift they’ve given to others…
Will you offer your emains of the day class again? It’s right up my alley!

Wow! That is so gorgeous! I took cuttings from mine last weekend. Hopefully the new growth will promote blooming. I don’t know what variety it is.

I’m so envious — I LOVE epi’s, wasn’t able to grow them up here. I did see yours on your patio in a photo of yours last week. So glad they’re bloomin’! Enjoy!
