Miss Moss I made a story out of my visual journal.
You want me to read it to you?
I won’t tell you the whole thing. It involved a princess, a puppy, a pig, a hidden key, a map, an evil prince, and a polar bear.
A very dynamic plot.
I can tell other kids are braiding their pages together with stories too. Because when I was teaching multi-step problems in Math today a couple of kids had their books on their laps mouthing words as they turned their pages.
And then the girl got lost in a field of flowers, but the bird brought her a ribbon with directions.
Tomorrow we’re going to make our brand new visual journals and these are going home. Everyone screamed when they heard that.
Can we make really really big ones this time?

I just love reading about your class. Can you please come teach 2nd grade in Montana?? Then they would all be instilled with the love of art journaling by the time they get to me for High School art 🙂
Much love and joy from Montana,
Rhoda

This craft monkey’s journal is totally amazing! I love the story line of the bird bringing ribbon directions to the girl lost in the flowers. What a great depiction with the collages.

As the Native Americans say, every act affects 7 generations. Take a moment to sit back, maybe on your lovely patio, and contemplate what you have done!

Everyone has already said what I would want to say, but I just had to add my voice. You’re a great teacher and what these kids produce is beyond amazing. And why I had to comment? I feel like a better person after reading your blog. Thank you!

I want to second being in your class! LOL. You know I think so many of us ‘wanna be’ art journalists (talking me here) should take a lesson from your kids. Just do it and the story unfolds. Amazing work!

You are, most likely, the most important person that will ever touch the lives of these children. These journals are so amazing – and they mark a creative journey for each child. Am so excited you are going to do another round with them!

my heart bursts into a bazillion tiny stars everytime you share these journals, so many stories to tell and share are presented on each page and all of their precious colors spill out on to the world…it is a good thing…a wonderful thing…I am putting in my vote whether it counts or not…you are hands down one of the ‘bestest’ teachers on the planet. You are goodness disguised with paper, fabric, and a glue stick. BEAR HUG comin’ at ya…:)

Oh, Miss Moss, Roald Dahl could have written such a great book about the teacher who created magic in her classroom with paper. These journals are BEYOND beyond!!
