In between Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic the craft monkeys were extra busy this week.
They started working on chipboard house books, kindly donated to us a couple of months ago by yet another classroom fairy godmother.
They worked in their envelope books. This year I’m taking lots more photos for them to put inside their visual journals.
We cut strips of fabric for Thanksgiving turkey collages.
Somehow I managed to get the room in order by the time the parents arrived.
Today I rustled through my scrap piles some more for REMAINS OF THE DAY. I am 1/4 of the way through class preparations. When it got too dark to videotape I made some cool digital elements in Photoshop for you to download and use in your shabby journal of scraps. You’ll be able to print on nice paper and cut out. if you’re a label junkie always looking for your next fix, I think you’ll dig the downloads.
I’m deeeeeeeelighted at how Prototype 2 is coming together. Simple, but quite fabulous. I really would like to show you. But I can’t. It’s a secret. For at least a little longer. Get your fabric scraps ready, put the batteries in your camera, sharpen your scissors, pick out your favorite glue stick, collect your thoughts (or scatter depending on how you work best), fill up your ink well, rev your sewing machine, and strap yourselves in. We’re going on a ride muchachos!
Registration is going to begin on December 1st. Class will begin approximately 2 weeks later. The videos, pdf’s, everything will be available for a year lending new meaning to the term WORK AT YOUR OWN PACE.

At MY own pace can mean forever! I have sooooo many unfinished projects, but what is making me very happy is that today I finished my very first icon painting that I started working on exactly 2, that’s TWO, years ago! Granted I only worked on it in the workshops and not at home, about twice a month for 3 hours each time, plus I got bored and dropped out twice for a few months, but still – two years!
Now I can work on the knitting project I started 5 years ago. Make that several knitting projects.
I love the monkeys’ journals with their sweet photos in them. I think the fact that they are in BW makes them even better.

Sweeeeet!! Just in time for my bday (my gift to me) – another journey into creative fabulous-ness. I’m off to unbury my sewing machine and unpack my stencils: all recently tucked away to make room for visitors that just left, and all anxiously awaiting a chance to come out and play again.

Dawn!!!!!!! 1000 AJP is our 2nd grade bible! no kidding. we look in it almost every time before the kiddos start working in their visual journals. ALL SCHOOLS (and all visual journalers) art departments need that book! it is the most concise reference for visual journaling that i know of. You done good with that one!!!! (say that in a paula deen voice)
Dawn Sokol says
I’m gonna have to join…Me like the fact you have 1000 AJP in that basket of goodies…
