Showers in early June in LA. No it didn’t! YES it did!
After I got home I slipped outside with camera in tow. Gathering evidence. Oh silver beads of rain, where did you come from?
The chocolate leaves of my smoke tree below were astonished to be wet at this time of year. Burgundy wine euphorbia above registers her shock. Is this… Could this be…
Water!?
Everything takes on a storybookish quality in the unexpected early summer showers. Quiet fell over the neighborhood as the blanket of rain clouds hovered overhead. I padded through the yard smiling. Someone followed along.
Even as I slipped across the way to my neighbors’ yards. Snap, snap, snap.
Buck knew something extraordinary was happening. He was not necessarily pleased.
The leaves of the black aeonium ‘Schwartzkopf’. Narcotic bliss.
The purple Jacaranda in front of my neighbor’s house. Who needs a red carpet when you can have a round purple one?
In the art department, my brothah’s partner, Joe is having an opening at Vroman’s. Go look. I’ve shown you photos of their house before. I keep telling them to start a blog, but they just keep dragging their big artistic feet around. Humph.
More rain today. Wild lightening in the mountains & foothills. Someone hand me my rain boots! The red ones.

judi – paul and i have been calling each other BROTHAH & SISTAH for years and years. we met at a small catholic college on the plains of kansas when we were 18 & 19 years old. we have been friends ever since. in 1989 i moved to LA and we resumed our long-time friendship. for a time in the early 90’s we lived down the block from each other in south pasadena.

Are you seriously Paul’s SISTER? I had no idea. Or, are you speaking in a figurative sense? I love Paul and Joe. The show was wonderful and the food didn’t suck either.

Can you believe we’re getting rain in June….and it isn’t even hot up here either! I’m lovin’ it! And I’m also lovin’ that photo of all the lavender flowers on the sidewalk….beautiful!
Yea! Gary Reef’s site is definitely a fun place. Your class and his class are my two favs!

I love Gary Reef’s videos! I was just going to watch ONE and…well…you know how THAT goes. Thank you for pointing me in his direction.
Rain. Shockingly, we’ve had a lot of rain here in the foothills of The Rockies this spring. Many Sun-Loving Coloradoans are on the brink of suicide. Me?…I LOVE it. Maybe I’ll pack up and move to Northern Ireland…
or Portland…or Half Moon Bay….

I couldn’t agree more about nature’s carpet on the sidewalk. Whether it’s of spent flowers, or scarlet leaves in the autumn….. Seems Wrong to walk on it……..
There is something about black plants, isn’t there? Just today, an hour ago, I took pics of some black iris. I’d never seen black flowers before. Very striking. (Wonder how the pics will be! Worthless, maybe, with no differences in value………..)
Once upon a time I was a student potter. One knows what one hopes for when one glazes a pot, but until the kiln cools off enough to open, there is suspense as to the actual outcome.
I feel the same way about what’s in the camera. When I’m taking pics outside in bright light I can barely see the view screen, and sometimes can’t see it at all. There is the same sort of suspense as with the pots — what will I find when I get the pics up on the computer?

In a land where rain is rare and precious, it’s hard to decide which time of day it is most dear. I love the wet quiet of those early mornings and the secure lullaby of nighttime showers. But wait! There’s more! Afternoon rain invites a snack plate and good reading. When rain is not regular it is always a treat – even if it causes a change of plans.
