Sunday in the city. While everyone else was counting their easter eggs I got out my best Sunday bag, hopped in the car, rolled down the windows, and drove the long way to the market. Jesus & Mary came along for the ride.
Earlier in the morning I sat at the open window and groggily sipped my coffee while a Disney scene unfolded in the front yard. Blue birds tooted their shrill horns and hopped on the branches, finches darted and chased each other in the yellow morning light, too many squirrels to count barked at the birds and each other. Swishing their big squirrel tails back and forth. All the while the cat posse lolled about on their backs in the sun and pretended to sleep. A beautiful day in the neighborhood. And I'm going to sit right here in the middle of it and be a quiet alert witness.
My neighbor brought over 3 big orchid plants. My other neighbor, in his 90's and in a nursing home now, used to raise them on the hill behind his house under the shade of several large trees. I was happy to adopt them. I know how much he loved being outside by himself and tending to his hundreds of orchids.
My sister sent me this email & mosaic:
That's Mama Moss bottom left.
Sister!
Mom and Ruby and I had a very nice lunch today.
Did you know they have an Easter cupcake eating contest every year at Lakeview Village?
I didn't either! Guess who won this year? Yep, that's right ME! They tie your hands behind your back so you have to shove your face in there and get after it. That is why there are no photos of me in this delightful little montage. I got a little messy, but I represented the family well. There was this one 90 year old lady who has won every year for the last 10 years and she was really doing well, but mom elbowed her a little and she started to cough and so I beat her. You would have been so proud of us.

It always gives me a little pang when Judy Wise comments on your blog but not on mine.
Sure, if she comments on mine I run over to her house barefoot and knock on the door with a shotgun staccato until she opens it and lets me onto the back porch where she’s undoubtedly painting a huge mural on the patio floor and I make her melt wax for me to make feet prints on her mural until the cops come. But that’s no reason not to comment. I’m very polite during the whole thing.
But, enough about you!

To paraphrase “Jesus wept”, I do believe Jesus and Mary laughed as they went off for coffee. It looks as if the Mosses are a truly fun bunch.

LOLOLOLOLOL….that’s the best cupcake eating contest story! Absolutely laughed out loud picturing it! Your family is full of antics and they should possibly be submitted to SNL, on a regular basis!

ah. the Moss clan play dirty when it comes to cupcakes. That gentleman would be so happy to know some of his orchids are in a good home, my beloved has them and they become like family…

Cool bag! The cupcake eating contest sounds like a blast! I might be able to give them a good run at that.
