Dear Suzanne,
When you get back from Italy this will be waiting in your mailbox. I really think it’s wrong, on so many levels, that you’ve been there since March and aren’t coming home until mid-May. Wrong, yet fabulous all at the same time. Last year at this time I was here:
One year later and each detail is still crisp in my mind.
I’m waiting by my mailbox for the “religious article” and slice of rose petal tart you raved about and so sincerely promised me, but which I have yet to receive.
Guess who’s coming to LA next week to visit me? Only for 4 days, but each day is jam packed with art, martinis, drives, very late nights, and early mornings. When you come back we’ll do the same!
Buona giornata, dolcezza! xoxoxo

Ciao bella! I have been Internet deprived for weeks on end in Assisi but now I am in Rome. Ah!! The big city!! Mille grazie for this blog letter! Im only sorry thatIm reading it for the 1st time on April 30th.
I am so happy here! Next time I may stay a Roma as long (or longer) than Assisi. I have a molto carini appartamento on Via Monserrato (uns bella strada) – comfy couch in my favorite color (Italian red), very comfy bed, real lamps on tables instead of strano ceiling fixtures, wonderful landscape oils (rom the 50’s maybe)on the ochre walls, anadorable & perfetta cucinetta behind doors in the living room, etc. AND, the best part, its due passe to the little piazza to the right where there is a great bar for morning cappuccino, un supermercato where I found coconut yogurt!!!, AND a newstand with the Herald Tribune so I can keep up with Obama news. (Everyone here LOVES HIM. Naturalmente.)love from the eternal city, S. PS I sent you the pacco from Assisi 2 weeks or so ago. My fingers are crossed you will get it. Let me know. Purtropo, I will be home, all too soon & Ill send fotos. Stai benessimo! Un grande abbraccio a Carol. Have a great vacation in LA together.

so you survived the wonderful drive into Amalfi as well.. have you ever seen anything so breathtaking? isn’t it interesting how when you are there you are so busy taking everything in, and it then for the next year you wake up to what you saw and then it becomes so firmly planted in your mind?

I don’t understand.
I thought Suzanne was MY friend?
Is nothing sacred any more?
