Sunday loose in the city.
I will catch the Coast Starlight heading up north.
Or stand on the platforms staring at snow-covered mountains.
Union Station is a lovely book with many chapters to explore.
A few steps away from the 201 arrivals & departures a day, there are empty courtyards . Places from which one could begin their great American novel. Or ransom note.
And across the street a festival atmosphere is blooming in the balmy air.
Legendary French dip sandwiches live one block north. I will go to there.
Make mine lamb with hot mustard, coleslaw, and a side of apple pie.
Pretty please.

Love these photos – I took the Coast Starlight up to Seattle one summer, but had too many bags and children in hand to take a lot of photos at Union Station – these are great 🙂

I did not know that LA had trains and such cool train stations! I love this little tour with you. And the lunch lady looks like she could be in the novel too! For a moment I was taken away on your lovely Sunday adventure….fantastic! Thanks Mary Ann. xo frannie

Ah, Phillipe’s. 35+ years ago, a student at Cal State LA, and those French dip sandwiches! Yum -yum! What a delicious memory you stirred with this post. Next time I go through Union Station I’ll have to plan in a lay-over for a stop at Phillipe’s. Or maybe even longer and go over to Beverly and Rampart for a Tommy’s Chili Burger! Now that really brings back the memories.

I adore your LA photos!! I had no idea there were so many fabulous sites in LA. You should do a book of your LA photos! Like on Blurb…
