Lately warm winds are blowing winter out of town. What a pity.
After a hot afternoon spent running in circles, all the baby horses
gallop inside to an air conditioned classroom and their visual
journals. Covers and tabs were made yesterday. All with donated materials.
Because I will be receiving so many supplies the visual journaling
workshop has expanded. 2 days a week, I am teaching Visual Journals 101 to another 2nd grade
class plus a class of 3rd graders (some of my students from last year)
in the afternoon. Those classes come to me and my little punks go to
their teachers for an hour.
Today the other 2nd grade class made the journals above. We used a huge stack of discarded cardstock weight notebook covers donated by Tyn. The students were good listeners, extremely creative, and quietly exuberant. Regular church mice. They accomplished a lot and were very pleased with themselves. Naturally my little punks were jealous and glared at the handiwork of the other class. Not one to promote inner tribal warfare, I assured them that I was saving the very bestest supplies for THEM. Psssst……Chris & Tyn, recognize the paper?

OH,MY HEAVEN! I have been so effing busy I didn’t check this today and LOOK! I remember that paper and that paper and that paper! And there’s a paper I dreamt about, over there.
They’ve really done good work. I am really impressed with your expanding the journaling classes, too. This is so good for them, for anyone, to make this a priority. I would have loved this in school.
Thank you for sharing.
also, I’ll be stealing some of their ideas.
p.s. nice pages up top.

You just can’t keep a good idea down. As the number of kids you touch increases, I am reminded of the Native American idea that what ever we do affects 7 generations. Girl, you are changing L.A. if not the world. Also, I don’t know where you will keep it, but you are the new owner of my morning. Between todays post and yesterday’s, filled with enchanting links, I’m still in PJ’s. You’ll like having my morning. It is quite amazing, filled with all of these good things.

It’s fabulous to see how your project is growing, spreading its wings – the kids are truly fortunate to have someone like you as an influence!

It’s a tiny tremor that grows and grows. You won’t know how large (Stegner’s meaning) this will become.
What you are doing is significant, not only for the kids’ experience but because it is authentically from you. No story prompts here.
