Lately on eb's blog I've been bowled over by the rich illustrations she's making in her visual journal. I decided to give it a try in mine this morning, but what to draw? Why not one of the little punks? I sat in front of my computer screen and did a partial contour drawing with a mechanical pencil. Then I went over it with ink, nib, and brush.
I always love the way you start out drawing something and it turns into something else entirely. I love the way a brand new person is formed with their very own story to tell. Well. I mean if you don't know what you're doing that happens. And like my favorite new paper genius says: Aqui Esta Voila!
I like what Katie wrote in a recent post: I use my camera when I want to capture the "realness" of something.
In that vein I am going to go invent another whole new person RIGHT NOW!
Just as soon as I finish with show & tell.
The coffee klatch was in full swing yesterday. Chris came by with the world's largest bag filled with shoeboxes. Now every kid will have a box of their very own! She also brought some really fabulous supplies. I am chomping at the bit to get to school tomorrow and go Lookee Here!!! And I can't wait to hear them squeal like a litter of baby pigs.
Next up: I demonstrate the healing powers of a Calcium Enriched Martini. This is not a joke.

Sister!
fffffff fabulous new person. I can’t decide if I like her mouth better or her nose. she is just completely ffffffffffffff fabulous. you are the master when it comes to shading though. in my next life I am going to have thick hair and have mastery over the subtle art of shading.

HOW the F did you know that my doctor (who I trust) told me to drink more calcium-rich martinis?
Your take on things is, as usual, impeccable.
To wit: your estimation of my bag o’ goodies. Just WAIT until you see my foamcore theatre! You’ll be getting foamcore scraps up the A !!
p.s. I don’t like to say ass on such a worldly blog.

I really love these pages and your drawing. I look forward to hearing about the reaction of your little ones.
And the calcium enriched martini? Hmmmmm…. Sounds like it could be a good thing.

I sense a new thread appearing for your journaling. The monkeys are always wonderful muses, visual and “word-al”. And contour drawing is always good for discipline.
as always, gratitude for inspirations.
