The sewing machine was whirring away in the sunshiny kitchen today where I was stitching up another flotsam and jetsam journal. I made it thicker this time.
Including file folders, photos, vinyl pockets, fabric, envelopes, book pages, whatever else I could patch together. And… I didn't break a single needle.
The last page of the kooky journal.
Actual phone conversation between Mama Moss & I:
Who's this?
Your daughter mom, Mary Ann.
I can't talk right now.
Why not?
I'm busy.
What's more important than dropping everything and talking to me?
I have to go!
Where?
Larry King has Michelle Obama on and then her husband, our new president is going to be on!
Really? Right now?
Yes! Call me back!
Why don't you call me back when you're finished.
Okay, but can you call me right back?
Yes the Obama bug has bitten Mama Moss in the arse and she is smitten. Okay. The truth is we both are. Not in the romantic way of course. The presidential way. We love Michelle. We dig Barack. And we can't wait to see Malia and Sasha with their new hypoallergenic puppy!
My sister, Dottie sent me this fabulous book on seaglass. I've been using it to identify mine by color. Deeply fascinating.
Someone get this cat a box of kleenex. He is sullen and uncooperative since he found out a dog, not a cat will be the next White House pet.
All of the cat posse are taking it hard.

I loooove your new scrappy journals! I’ve been making journals lately too and really enjoy the process. I also love using up my stash of stuff! By the way, I’m giving away one of them on my blog right now 😉 xo,debra

I love the journal, how inspiring. Sorry the cats are taking the first pet news hard. But there was a plug for shelter pets (ok just dogs) which is great. Thanks for sharing this great blog. Mary

I saw a quilt of sea glass in a mag yesterday, she had sewn in two inch by two inch pockets of silk organza not a grid and captured them in there…. beautiful…

Can I have all your journals, your sea glass, and THAT CAT!
please?
Wyatt would get Scout into shape in no time.
I love phone conversation transcripts. Please include more. I hate the phone and never use it. So it might help me to gain some lacking skills.

I love these journals! You’ve inspired me to try a few of my own. Yes, I actually got out my sewing machine and learned to thread it and wind a bobbin in the same day. I used the smaller sized (6×9) clasped envelopes and sewed them together to make a booklet card of sorts for a friend. I love how the clasped envelope part makes a secret little pocket for putting extra love inside. I’ve been sewing paper to paper thus far – but watch out world – I’m going to break bad with some denim and old shirts for place mats once I clear the dining room table of all my collage materials. Thanks for the inspiration!

Love the Flotsam & Jetsam Journal. It’s so pretty. I could sit stare and fondle the sea glass for at least half the day. And poor Cat Posse. Maybe next time. Maybe some catnip will snap them right out of that funk they’re in. Hope you’re having a great week.

Imagine a stack of about 15 pages or so. You know, folders, paper, vinyl, whatever. Now fold them in half width-wise. Unfold. You have a crease running up the middle. Sew along that line one row of stitching. Next wrap cover around the one sewn signature then stitch the whole mess together.

no broken needles – wow. Are the signatures – is the signature – sewn by machine as well. I was trying to count the pages and still trying to visualize how you did this without having matching halves. ‘Cuz each set of pages is not part of a whole. It is just SO cool. That cover is wonderful.
I love the organicness, organicity, the lively ever-changingness of your page. I particularly like the Twain quote today. It reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw: “If you love something, set it free; if it was meant to be, it will come back to you. If it doesn’t, hunt it down and kill it.”
