What is the visual journal if not one big experiment? I continue making marks. Adding some things, subtracting others. I like having a big container to pour out the visual contents of my brain.
In LA there is an endless supply of rich content to feed the creative imagination. A visual banquet yours for the taking.
Now that my night classes have ended until mid-autumn I have time to persue a few things. Like napping for instance.
Some days I go back and forth between the computer to mine through photos I've taken. Print it, paint it, re-photograph it, upload, add digital texture, print again, glue in book, shampoo, rinse, repeat.
With a 6 week vacation looming on the horizon I'm drunk with the possibilities of so much time.
I added a photo album just for the signs. The type is having a hypnotic effect. You may be just getting sleepy. SNAP OUT OF IT already!
I told you this wasn't ending anytime soon. Didn't I?
And besides, I cannot be held responsible for ideas that get stuck in my craw.

Gorgeous photo collage, so yummy. Your journaling is really inspiring. I’ll be taking my first journaling class in a bit, and I can’t imagine it being better than the class you’re giving us!
I love 140lb cold press, but what’s so good about fabriano what’s his name? Is it that much neato-er than other kinds? I’m naive, so forgive.

I love your page you created. Just wanted to let you also know my internet was back up for a bit and we are ok. I couldn’t get to your email page for some reason. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. I posted an update to my blog.

You remind me that, while our rustic old ranch is great, I am missing out on the “in-your-faceness of LA.

Love the grid with type face, it lends itself so well. My fave is the pink rent sign. The light is so LA as well, you just KNOW where you are on the globe, just from the light. Harsh and sharp. Yes, please tell us photoshop newbies what filters you used to grunge up the church shot, or did you do it the old fashioned way- with your hands?

P. S. Tried to email but can’t get it to work somehow. Is there a secret? I, too, am a monkey whisperer of the first grade kind!

What kind of paper do you use as a base for journal pages?

I do that shampoo, rinse and repeat thing too with my images! Well, I haven’t done it with just photos, I’ll do it with mixed media pieces. And then reincorporate into another piece. But I think I will try it with just the photos one day. Thanks for the inspiration!

INspirations again – are you getting out of your car to take these sign photos or leaning out the window, or snapping whilst driving? When I was little (four and five) my father became a sign painter in Santa Monica while he was going to art grad school at UCLA. My sister was born & we moved back to ABQ & he opened a sign biz “The Dollar Sign Co.” while he painted on off times. I’ve always been around and aware of lettering and signage (can’t do it myself, but I have great appreciation.
What are the filters/brushes you have use with the church & appt shots? Did you do something with the color as well??
