Lately on Saturdays, My favorite brothers Tom & Ray on CAR TALK keep me company on public radio while I head out across the long expanse of city. Driving, driving, driving. Trying to remember where I saw the gaping jaws of the graffiti shark and the boombox. Accidently running into Jesus along the way. I hit the motherlode with this one. My shriek of laughter careened off the buildings and bounced down the sidewalks.
Oh look, a bunny!
The shark. Check.
Birdie on a boom box. Check.
Euthanizing vampires. Great Scott!
Cut across a few lanes of traffic near Chinatown to pull over for this snowy scene. Imagine if you will, an abundantly sunny LA, windows down, palms swaying in the balmy breeze and the Swiss Alps looming on the horizon. Here is a city that comes when I call. A place that knows just the right thing to rouse me out of hibernating tendencies.
Then home with energy for the visual journal.
And a box of pirate treasure from eb .
A good day all around. Now let me get back to the important business at hand. A Charlie Brown Valentine Special.

Hello from chilly New England where it’s a balmy 16 degrees this morning.
I realize I’m a stranger but I just wanted to drop you a note and tell you how much I love your photos and art. An injection of warmth and color in a gray winter. Thanks!

Moved to Portland, Or from Santa Cruz Ca… OH MY GOD– I just got to visit home by reading your blog! … I miss that california sunshine, sure. But more than that I miss all the little details I call home! The terra cotta pot porch gardens… The flea markets… The smell of laundry detergent and tortillas wafting through the neighborhood at sundown… Mexican blankets and posters of Jesus for sale on every other street corner, bags of oranges and flats of strawberries. The grit, gangsters, low riders, graffiti… GRAFFITI!!!
THE CULTURE!!!!
I do love PDX, but it is a little quaint for me sometimes–I need me a little dirt and grit every once in a while… Perhaps I’ll just have to come back here.

Did you hear my shriek over the hill in Moss Cottage when I saw your new bunny picture? I swear, girlfriend, you’ll be the death of me with the (I’m sorry, but I’ve completely run out of words to express how much I love your art) snippets of our city. Such shrieking from me surely will cause me to lose my voice and you’ll miss my expletives. But, keep ’em coming, I’ll take me chances!
