I see all of us reading ourselves away from ourselves,
straining in circles of light to find more light
until the line of words becomes a trail of crumbs
that we follow across a page of fresh snow;
from Sailing Alone Around the Room – New and selected poems by Billy Collins
Oh I do love a good poem. And a good book. Look. There I am on this old chaise turning page after page in my untidy back patio. There are bird feathers in the bathroom from the last 2 birds Wyatt caught in the last 2 days and behind the heavy bookcase in the living room is a lizard that is 8 inches long. He’s hiding there in the dark until it’s safe to come out. I’ll assist as needed in his escape plan. If I can. But in the meantime I’m reading. And I’m not going to stop until the sun sets.
I’ve never been a flowery kind of girl myself, but when it comes to wallpaper do you ever really have a choice? I didn’t think so. Expect to see wallpaper in every piece of future mailart and every last visual journal page between now and kingdom come. It was the same with this scrapbook photo album I picked up at the Pasadena City College flea market back in January. Every one of my visual journal pages since then has had a vintage photo stapled onto it. I can’t help it. Lately I’m besotted with graffiti posters, spraypaint, wallpaper, and vintage photos. That equation wouldn’t normally add up to anything that makes much sense, but the heart wants what it wants. Who am I to argue?
Over on Debra’s blog I found a link to THIS exquisite bird sketch book. Go here now and check it out. You won’t be sorry. Also I discovered Something Sublime’s jewelry and art journal pages yesterday.
I hadn’t visited Miss Simple Sparrow in awhile. THIS is a blog I read because it transports me to a completely different life than my own. She’s got one of the cutest kids in Blogland and he does and says funny things on a regular basis. Also she hangs her clothes on the line and takes photos and that just adds to the Wonder Factor. Also she makes stuff. Cute stuff. You probably already know about her though. Oh and one more thing. She lives in California. But not the same one I live in.
The only other thing you might need to know is that it is Saturday and I haven’t been tapped in 24 hours, or heard a single monster story, or had to put a single tooth into an envelope for safe keeping. It is a delicious 75 degrees under a blue sky with winds 4 m.p.h. from the southwest. Humidity is 30% and the low tonight will be 54 degrees.
Oh….and this is a photo of one of my window boxes that I antiqued and blurred the edges of in IPhoto. And one of my girls bloomed today. That’s all.

Thanks, MA, for the plug. I’m into shameless self promotion so I’ll take it! Love those wallpapers from Patty. I’ve been trying to resist for a long time but I can see I’m going to have to break down and get me some.

Ha! You couldn’t fool me this time with that upside-down book. I recognized the cover and got my copy to compare the two.
Love your blog and look forward to updates of your take on LA. Especially enjoy the stories of your students. Keep ’em comin’.
