Today I didn’t do a single productive thing except shake, rattle, and spray stencils. My brand new Old English stencils excite me way more than sheets of plastic with letters punched out should, but I can’t help what I get fixated on. And today it was stencils. Old English to be exact. They’re really really purdy. They were purdier before they got sprayed up real good with adhesive and gobs of thick glossy spraypaint. That couldn’t be helped though and doesn’t diminish my love for them one bit. In my zeal I accidently spraypainted a stencil on my old green plastic watering can. Then each member of the cat posse got branded with their initials on their back haunches.
Here are some preliminary shots of the visual journal. I’m also in the process of preparing my Moleskine for its role as travel journal. When it’s done getting its pre-travel treatment I’ll post a photo of it. What I should be doing is heading straight to the beauty shop for an eyebrow wax, pedicure, and haircut. Last time I went to Mexico I gave myself a haircut on a particularly hot day. My neck doesn’t like hair sticking to it and that’s what was happening. The HAIRCUT may have happened after I had my daily margarita on the rocks with my lunch, but I don’t recall. Anway, the truth is my hair looked good after that cut. Sort of layered and bouncy. I DO recall a woman from my Spanish class offered to even it out for me, but I doubt that could have made it any more attractive. Besides when I got back to LA I straightened it out a little myself. This went on for several months. I still haven’t had a real haircut from a professional, but that’s all going to change. Tomorrow or the next day for sure I am biting the bullet, marching into a salon, and getting the deed done. Maybe I could get a nice set of bangs cut that would cover my eyebrows.
Oh…..the branding of the cat haunches was strictly in my imagination. The HAIRCUT debacle is strictly real.

I love your vibrant journal pages, and the juxtaposition of stencilled lettering and freehand drawings.. beautiful.
Also I love having expert haircut and eyebrows waxed…. a good haircut and arches are works of art imo. 🙂

Had to comment on this one. I love the haircut page! I’ve been having some of the same thoughts lately. I haven’t had a professional cut in at least 8 years. I like the black leaves stamped on the page too. Cool page!

Ditto here on the haircut…I haven’t had a professional one in ages. It seems like everytime I go they botch it. Plus why should I spent $40 to 60 to have my haircut??!?!? crazy crazy! I cut my husband’s hair and our son’s hair.

Hey Mail Art Bud-
Where did you get ALL THOSE STENCILS!!
On the whole hair cutting topic I am all for cutting your own hair and saving that money for books and art supplies. Sometimes my hair looks good when I cut it and sometimes it looks bad but I always have an extra 20 bucks in my pocket so who cares! When are you leaving? I have something I need to get in the mail to you?

Hey girl! I too love the old english lettering stencils, they are my fave…..mine came with the letters still in so i could save some as masks. I too cut my own hair….last professional cut was 16 years ago when i was pregnant and had a bad experience, getting left with a tuft of Moe-like hair on a pumpkin face. I’ll never go back. Your pages are ROCKIN’!! I got your wicked cool mail art….can I have permission to show on my blog? Will send the promised stuff to you this week.
